Blood. Sweat. Tears. Sunday was an intense battle of skill and consistency down in New Jersey where 8 of the world’s best skateboarders competed for a spot in the upcoming Street League Skateboarding Super Crown final showdown in Chi-town on October 4th. The skaters who took part in stop 2 ranged from the new-comers like Matt Berger to the veterans like Paul “Prod” Rodriguez. It was to no surprise that the contest was mainly focused on reigning champ Nyjah Huston and the people’s champ, Luan Olivera. Nyjah, coming from an undefeated tour last year and winning the pro open this year, has many believing that he could possibly lay down the path for another undefeated streak. Those dreaming were unfortunately toppled by the people’s champ who pressed forward with his second ever win in his Street League career. Could this possibly mean that this will become the Era of Olivera?

The first part was the flow section which consists of two 45-second runs with each rider judged based on use, of the area, hardness, of the trick, style, and execution. All bets were off as Chaz Ortiz came firing out with an 8.2 in the scorecards, but it wasn’t enough to keep him in the first place position. Right out the gates you begin to see who the top skaters of the night were. Everyone giving their all, but it seemed that some of them left their best at home. Towards the end of the flow section Luan Oliveria held fast to his first place position with his incredible speed and textbook footwork which once again proved that he is a force to be reckoned with, but it was still anyone’s game.

Toward the end of the flow section, Shane O’Neil took a heavy hit by landing a primo move on top of his board. It seemed to have an effect on him the rest of the competition, but he still skated strong. The final scores of the flow section left Luan and Nyjah still battling for first and got even more exciting after that. The one unexpected performance was done by Kelvin Hoefler. The Brazilian pulled off an amazing show, placing him 3rd and sending him off to his first Super Crown Championship. Nyjah appeared to cave under pressure and could not keep up with the technical skill of the people’s champ. Luan ended up winning his 2nd Street League win, but will it be enough to show he has what it takes to win his first Super Crown? We’ll see in Chi-town in October!!!
