Before you reach for a packet of Splenda (sucralose), be aware that it is not real sugar, even though its slogan is, “Made from sugar, so it tastes like sugar.”
Sucralose (Splenda) was approved for use in foods as a sweetener in 1998. Before approving sucralose, the FDA claimed to have reviewed 110 human and animal studies, but it turns out that only 2 out of those studies were actually on humans.
“It’s a chlorinated artificial sweetener in line with aspartame and saccharin, with detrimental health effects to match,” explains Dr. Joseph Mercola.

Most of the controversy surrounding Splenda is the way it is advertised. “The sugar industry is currently suing McNeil Nutritionals for implying that Splenda is a natural form of sugar with no calories,” Mercola adds.
