Routt County Riders will lead a trail work day on Emerald Mountain from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17.
Volunteers are needed to re-establish trails damaged from logging and they should meet at the Blackmere Drive gate at 9 a.m. Following the trail work, volunteers can enjoy lunch and beverages provided by New Belgium Brewing Company. Those who bring their bikes can ride down after.
Tools will be provided, and volunteers should wear sturdy shoes and bring work gloves, backpack, sunscreen, rain gear, cap and water. Volunteers can sign up at routtcountyriders.org/volunteer.
Volunteers needed for 2016 ReTree Steamboat event
Yampa Valley Sustainability Council invites community members to the annual ReTree Steamboat community tree-planting event at 9 a.m. Oct. 8.
Volunteers of all ages are needed to plant native riparian species at the Chuck Lewis State Wildlife Area just south of Steamboat Springs on the Yampa River. The project will help restore wildlife habitat and prevent erosion. Lunch and T-shirts, with original artwork by Jill Bergman, will be provided to all volunteers. Volunteers can sign up online at yvsc.org/volunteer.
Yampa Valley Sustainability Council is also recruiting volunteer crew leaders to help prep the planting site on Oct. 7 and direct volunteers on Oct. 8. To find out more about becoming a crew leader, email sarah@yvsc.org.
The goal of ReTree Steamboat is to plant and care for site-specific native tree species and connect the local community, especially youth, to their environment in a meaningful, hands-on way. Since 2010, more than 2,500 ReTree volunteers have helped to plant and care for more than 25,000 trees.
Local Women’s Giving Circle divvies up $8K in donations
The Women’s Giving Circle met Sept. 1 at the Mesa Schoolhouse for its annual gathering. Collectively, 20 women donated a total of $8,000 to grant out to five organizations on behalf of a number of individuals and families in need.
The receiving organizations were First Impressions of Routt County, Routt County Department of Human Services, Horizons, Integrated Community and Yampa Valley Autism.
The Women’s Giving Circle meets annually to learn about the current needs in the community and make collective decisions about the most impactful place to grant the pooled funds. Registration available for fall preschool program
The city of Steamboat Springs Parks and Community Services Department is offering a fall preschool program for potty-trained 2 1/2 to 5-year-olds.
A 14-week session will be offered from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays, and a 13-week session will be offered from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays. The program runs from Sept. 13 to Dec. 22. Children can register for the entire 13- or 14-week session at a discounted rate, or for individual days.

College fair open to all Routt County high schoolers
Steamboat Springs High School will host a college fair with more than 30 college representatives from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 in the commons area. The free event is open to all Routt County high school students and their families.
Local groups reach out to soldiers returning to area
The Routt County Veterans Affairs, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4264 and American Legion Post 44 in Steamboat would like to meet and greet local sons and daughters returning from military service. The VFW is looking for female war veterans and new members.

Nothwest Colorado Health offers hepatitis A, B vaccines
Hepatitis is a liver disease that can sometimes lead to long-term liver infection or liver cancer. The most common types are Hepatitis A, B and C.
Hepatitis A is spread by eating or drinking food or water contaminated with the virus. Hepatitis B is spread through blood, semen or other bodily fluids. Hepatitis C is spread through infected blood.
Vaccines are available to prevent Hepatitis A and B. There is no vaccine for hepatitis C, but it can be treated if caught early. Travel and/or some behaviors may increase hepatitis risk. Hepatitis A and B and other routine vaccinations are available during drop-in immunizations clinics, which are held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursdays at the Northwest Colorado Health, 940 Central Park Drive, Suite 101. They are also available by appointment by calling 970-879-1632.
