Steamboat Adaptive Recreational Sports — STARS — has hired Brett Coleman as the organization’s new program director. Coleman is returning to the Colorado Rockies after spending the past few years in the Pacific Northwest.
A Texas native and a 2006 graduate of Texas A & M University, Coleman has a dual degree in kinesiology and special education and holds teacher certifications in both special education and physical education.
Coleman’s journey to adapted sports began with a knee injury in high school. After months of physical therapy, he realized he wanted to spend his professional life helping others get back to doing the things they love.
He spent more than five years as a special education teacher and Special Olympics head coach in Texas before moving to Colorado to focus on outdoor adaptive recreation. For three years, he served as programs director at Challenge Aspen before taking on a program manager role for the Outdoors for All Foundation in Seattle.
When Coleman isn’t working, he enjoys running trails and training for his next race, finding a new favorite food spot or exploring the area with his partner and their sidekick, Gus, the dachshund.
Hayden Library selects 4th Reader of the Week
Billy Brooks Doolin is Hayden Public Library’s fourth Reader of the Week for the “On Your Mark, Get Set, Read” summer reading program. Billy is 2-years-old and enjoys visiting the library to check out books and attend programs with his mom and 4-year-old sister, Daphne. His parents are Alicia and Jake Doolin, and his best friend is his papa-dad. Billy loves to play ball and root for the Chicago Bears. Billy wants to be a soccer player when he grows up.
The family has two dogs, Boozer, a yellow lab, and Buzz Buzz, a border collie; a cat named Zoey; a cockatiel Ozzy; and three chickens. Billy’s favorite colors are green and blue, his favorite food is pepperoni pizza and he enjoys watching “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.” He enjoys reading “Goodnight Colorado,” by Adam Gamble and Bill Mackey and is looking forward to going camping.
Literary Sojourn tickets go on sale at 10 am July 13
Literary Sojourn will be held Sept. 17, at the Sheraton Steamboat Resort. Steamboat’s 24th annual festival of readers and authors is presented by the Bud Werner Memorial Library and features Lauren Groff, Anthony Marra, Patrick deWitt, Ethan Canin and Jessie Burton, with master of ceremonies Jess Walter.

Intermediate, advanced ukulele clinic to be offered
Gary Jugert, director of Denver’s Rocky Mountain Ukulele Orchestra, will present a clinic for intermediate to advanced ukulele players July 30 and 31 in Steamboat Springs. Jugert will provide chord and melody instruction and multi-part arrangements using several pieces that will be available before the clinic.
