Due to the July 4 fireworks set-up and show, all trails on the Howelsen Hill Ski Area will be closed from 8 a.m. until
11 p.m. Friday. This includes all access points and the area from Bluffs Loop to Mile Run.
All other trails on Emerald Mountain will remain open to the public until 4 p.m. and may be accessed via the Blackmere trailhead.
From 4 until 11 p.m., all trails and access to Howelsen Hill and Emerald Mountain will be closed for safety reasons. Security staff and signs will be posted at all trail heads, and the City of Steamboat Springs requests everyone respect this closure for their own safety.
The Sombrero Stables will remain open to the public
Friday.
Chief Theater to host live tribute to Grateful Dead
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of The Grateful Dead, the Chief Theater will feature a three-day, live-streaming event titled “Fare Thee Well: Celebrating 50 Years of The Grateful Dead. The event will feature Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh and Bob Weir — with special guests Trey Anastosio, Jeff Chimenti and Bruce Hornsby — and will reunite the group at Chicago’s Soldier Field nearly 20 years to the day from the last Grateful Dead Concert, which took place at the same venue.
“Fare Thee Well” will be streamed live over three nights — Friday, Saturday and Sunday — at the Chief Theater. Cash bar opens at 5:30 p.m., and the show begins at 6 each night.

YVSC seeks volunteers for holiday weekend events
Yampa Valley Sustainability Council is calling on all earth stewards to help with five events YVSC’s Zero Waste program has planned for Friday and Saturday. Events include a free concert at Howelsen on Friday and several events on Saturday, including Mountain Madness at Parks and Recreation, Market at 7th, Block Party at Tread of Pioneers Museum, and Jumpin’ Jammin’ at Howelsen. City sponsors several trips for local senior citizens
The City of Steamboat Springs Parks and Community Services Department is sponsoring several summer trips for seniors 55 and older.
Upcoming trips include the Denver Botanic Gardens on July 17 and a Day in Denver on Aug 7. Both trips cost $20 and include transportation. All other costs, including admission fees and meals, are the responsibility of the participants.

Design committee seeks volunteers for projects
The Mainstreet Steamboat Springs Design Committee is looking for volunteers. The committee focuses on how downtown Steamboat looks and functions.
Some of the projects the committee has completed included the downtown bus shelters; adopting Eagle Scout Park for cleanup, plantings and ongoing maintenance; assisting with the design and execution of the streetscape plan on Lincoln Avenue; and flower baskets. Upcoming projects will include the Yampa Street revitalization and advocacy for sidewalks on Oak Street. The committee meets from 8:30 to 10 a.m. the second Wednesday of each month in Centennial Hall, 124 10th St.

Integrated Community in need of English tutors
Integrated Community/Comunidad Integrada is seeking volunteers for its adult and youth English tutoring programs.
Volunteers are trained and matched with either an immigrant student in need of academic support or a limited-English speaking community member, depending on preference.

Community members have chance to learn English
Community members have the opportunity to learn English while bringing their preschool children to a special children’s program through Integrated Community, which is held from 9 a.m. to noon Mondays at Bud Werner Memorial Library. Location for rechargeable battery collection changed
Steamboat Springs City Hall is no longer accepting rechargeable, lithium and button cell batteries for recycling. These items can be dropped off at Mogil’s on the Mountain in Dream Island Plaza during their business hours, which are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.
