About 13,259 visitors are expected to be in town Saturday, according to the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association’s lodging barometer.
The figure represents 84 percent capacity at area lodging properties, with downtown occupancy at 100 percent. On the mountain, hotels are forecast at 83 percent capacity and condos are expected to be 82 percent full.
Lodging is expected to dip to 9,817 on Wednesday.
The Chamber’s lodging barometer is based on survey data from local lodging properties. Its primary function is to help businesses determine staffing levels during the winter and summer tourism seasons. Actual lodging occupancy levels tend to increase from the forecast levels as a result of last-minute bookings.
Alcohol service training scheduled for Saturday
Grand Futures is hosting its Responsible Alcohol Service Training from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5 at the Steamboat Springs Community Center. This class is an accepted certification for alcohol responsibility training for servers, distributors and sellers of alcoholic beverages in Colorado. Grand Futures is a nonprofit organization and fees collected from this class go directly to programs and activities that promote healthy lifestyles for youth. The cost of the class is $35. Yampapalooza II event looking for acoustic acts
Yampapalooza II, a day-long celebration of local amateur bands and acts, is looking for acoustic soloists or duos to perform Saturday, Febr. 28 at McKnight’s Irish Pub. Applicants should have 30 minutes of material. Call Tommy Larson at 970-871-4776 for more information.
Downtown Lincoln Avenue to close for Winter Carnival
Lincoln Avenue in downtown Steamboat Springs will be closed from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday for the Winter Carnival street events. Traffic will be rerouted to Oak and Yampa streets.
Rotarians pick SSHS senior as Student of the Month
Brody King, a Steamboat Springs High School senior, has been selected as the Rotary Club of Steamboat Springs’ Student of the Month for January. The Steamboat Springs High School senior
“Brody works diligently to fulfill his responsibilities to his family, his academics and to his teams,” said high school social studies teacher Kelly Erickson, who nominated Brody for the honor. “He fulfills these responsibilities willingly and always shares a smile and kind word with everyone he encounters.”
Brody is described as consistent, hardworking and coachable. He is a school leader serving as a two-year captain of the basketball team, working as a peer aid and participating in other extracurricular and community activities.
“Brody will put his heart into fulfilling his commitments,” Erickson stated. “He has endured much and still faces life with a positive attitude and a genuine concern for others. He fiercely protects his loved ones and will do whatever is asked of him in order to care for those around him: his family, the students that he mentors in our school, his teammates or anyone else that needs assistance.”
Inspired Life Network set to host event on Feb. 12
Inspired Life Network will present life coach Robin Schepper and a Vision Board Party from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Steamboat Base Club.
Shepper, original executive director of the Let’s Move initiative serving under First Lady Michelle Obama, will guide participants through the process of identifying what’s really important in their lives.
The fun-filled evening will involve envisioning the future while creating a unique piece of personal art.
