At the beginning of our marriage, my husband and I had the opportunity to live in the San Francisco Bay Area for about a year. He grew up in a military family and was used to living all over the world and moving every couple of years. I had barely ever left New England, so I relished every opportunity to see and do new things, including:

Going to the beach to watch my first sunset. Just as beautiful as a sunrise and you don’t have to get up early!

Experiencing a snowless winter. Heaven.

Trying new foods and visiting wineries in Napa and Sonoma.

After about a year, we returned to New Hampshire and little did I know that my home state would steadily develop its own “wine country”. According to visitnh.gov, the state is currently home to 20 wineries and meaderies, as well as 33 breweries. Many of the wines, beers and meads made in New Hampshire with locally grown and harvested ingredients, have won national and international recognition. Several of those products, as well as fine cheeses, chocolates, ciders and coffees made in New Hampshire, will be available for sampling during the third annual Lakes Region Uncorked tasting event at Church Landing at Mill Falls in Meredith on Thursday, Nov. 5.

I still love to try new things, but it’s rare that I have the time to commit to visiting locations across the state to discover various hidden treasures. Fortunately, this year’s Uncorked pulls together the best of the best in one beautiful lakeside location. The event features 21 vendors, who will be sharing their high-quality, locally crafted food and drink with guests. There will be a Tasting Trail, informative talks (including a discussion and demonstration on wine and chocolate pairing), live music, a silent auction and a ‘Wall of Wine’ raffle.

Proceeds from Uncorked benefit Lakes Region Community Services, a non-profit organization that supports people with developmental disabilities and brain injuries, elders, veterans and families in Belknap and southern Grafton counties.

Vendors on hand in the Uncorked Tasting Room include:  Canterbury Aleworks, Coffin Cellars Winery, Farnum Hill Ciders, Flag Hill Winery, Gilmanton Winery and Vineyard, Haunting Whisper Vineyard, Hermit Woods Winery, LaBelle Winery, Newfound Lake Vineyards, Sap House Meadery, Squam Brewing, The Vineyard at Seven Birches, Woodstock Inn Brewery and Woodshed Coffee. New to Uncorked this year are Moat Mountain Brewing Co., North Country Hard Cider, Sweet to Eat Cheesecakes, Huckins Farm and Winnipesaukee Chocolates.

The Common Man is catering the event with a selection of fine foods and local favorites and the Paul Bourgelais Jazz Duo will perform. Tickets are $55 in advance and $65 at the door. Advance tickets may be purchased online or by calling Joanne at 524-8811, ext. 1588.
