Describe how you felt when My Turn Inc. was announced as the 2016 “Leadership Development Program of the Year.”

I was thrilled! And extremely proud of my staff and participants who have really made the program successful. We were up against some great competition – so I have to admit I was a bit shocked when we were announced!

For those that aren’t familiar with the program, provide a brief description of its mission.

MY TURN seeks to provide young people with pathways out of poverty through academic and employment training in a supportive environment.

What types of certifications and credits can be earned from participating in this program?

Our participants can earn certificates in various Microsoft Applications, CNC Machine Tool Technology, Human Resource Management, Small Business Management, Microelectronics, Lean Manufacturing White Belt, and Computer Networking. Participants can also earn Associate’s Degrees in Mechanical Design Technology and Electronic Engineering Technology.

Tell us about other partnerships you have with New Hampshire businesses and organizations.

Our program partners very closely with a number of manufacturers in the greater Nashua area. Our partners provide facility tours, work based learning experiences, guest speakers, mentors, and employment opportunities. Our current partners include C&M Machine Products, Omni Components, Micromatics, Rapid Manufacturing, Hitchiner, Guild Optics, Worthen Industries, Icon Broadcast, Net Logic, GL&V/Ovivo, and Parker Hannifin.

Additional partners include Nashua Community College, The Adult Learning Center, the NHWorks Partners’ Group, Nashua High Schools North & South along with several other area high schools, NH Department of Education, NH Office of Workforce Opportunity, NH Department of Resources and Economic Development, NH Workforce Innovation Board, and NH Youth Council. Fill in the Blank:

We knew our program was successful when ____________.

Companies started seeking us out as a solution to their employee shortages.

What is one of your long-term goals for the My Turn Inc. Manufacturing Program?

To expand into every region of the state.

We know you love the Granite State, so tell us*:

What’s your favorite “hidden gem?”

I love to tell people about El Rincon in Manchester. It’s a tiny little restaurant across from the SNHU Arena but it serves the best Mexican food in the state.

What’s your favorite restaurant and item on the menu?

I am very fond of both Republic and Campo Enoteca. I love the Steak Frites at Republic and Tagliatelle at Campo.

Where’s your favorite place to getaway for the weekend?

I can’t remember the last time I went on a weekend getaway, but my favorite day trip is the Welch-Dickey Loop Trail in the White Mountains. It has the most amazing views!

Ice cream or pizza? Where do you go to get your favorite?

Ice cream. I live less than a mile from the Puritan, so we like to walk down for a cone on hot summer nights.

Which city/town in NH have you yet to visit but look forward to when time presents itself? What do you want to do once you get there?

I haven’t done much exploring in the North Country. I would love to go hiking or check out some of the ATV and snowmobile trails up there.

Do you prefer the sunrise or the sunset? And where in NH do you catch the best?

That is a tough question – I am a big fan of both. I would have to go with sunsets if I could only chose one. Benedictine Park in Bedford is a great place to enjoy a sunset, or anywhere on Lake Winnipesaukee.
