The Holiday season is fast approaching with a marathon of cooking, travel, gift wrapping, holiday parties and visiting loved ones. This past weekend my boyfriend and I had family visiting from Massachusetts. We spent the weekend sharing with them the many different flavors and experiences that the Monadnock region has to offer. Whiling creating our weekend itinerary, I began to think of the many upcoming Holiday happenings within our area. Here are some of my favorite local Holiday events to share with family and friends.
Peterborough Holiday Stroll: Saturday, November 19th
During the Holiday season it’s important to exercise in-between treats and glasses of egg nog. Luckily, the town of Peterborough, NH offers the perfect opportunity to get moving while knocking off some of your shopping. This wonderful pre-Holiday event has a little something for everyone. There are various craft fairs, baked goods, shopping, evergreen arraignments, cookie walk and a visit from Santa and his elves.
Plaid Friday: Friday, November 25th
Plaid Friday first originated in Oakland, CA and was built on the idea of weaving together the many local businesses within a community. The movement has now grown into a popular Holiday tradition across the country. Plaid Friday is a great way to rock your favorite flannel and support the many local businesses within the Monadnock region. The Keene Kiwanis Club Annual Tree Lighting: Friday, November 25th
One of my favorite Holiday traditions is tree lightings; there is just truly something magical about them. The simple pleasure of bundling up with family and friends and awaiting the lighting of a giant snow covered evergreen. Every November the Keene Kiwanis Club hosts their annual tree lighting ceremony in Central Square. This event includes cookies, hot chocolate, brass band, children choirs and a special visit from Santa Claus. The Keene Kiwanis Club is a nonprofit service club, who strives to enhance the lives of children and their families within our community.
The Currier and Ives Cookie Tour: Saturday, December 10th
Cookies, cookies, cookies, is there a better way to enjoy the Monadnock region than with sweet treats galore. The Currier and Ives Cookie Tour began eleven years ago and has grown to include nineteen inns, historical societies and small shops. At each stop participants receive refreshments a homemade treat and recipe. A portion of this year’s proceeds will be donated to My Neighbor’s House, offering short term, transitional housing and social services, for those in need.
