16 Books to Read in 2016!
2016 is here! Happy New Year!
Reading more is on my list of goals for 2016. As a mom of two little ones, I don’t always find (or is it make?) time for reading so I’m not going to set any crazy goals like 100 books in a year.
16 books in 2016 sounds perfect to me. I’m a little behind on my reading, so many of these books are older. There are a few new releases though, and at a few books yet to be published! If you’d like to read more in the New Year and need some suggestions, check out my list of 16 books to read in 2016!
#1 The Total Money Makeover: A Proven Plan for Financial Fitness by Dave Ramsey This is number one on my list. I already own it, and this will be a re-read for me. Getting financially fit in 2016 is a huge priority for me. The Total Money Makeover is just one of several financial books I’d like to read in 2016 (check this post for the rest of my list).
#2 Money Making Mom: How Every Woman Can Earn More and Make a Difference by Crystal Paine
Man, I sure hope my library is getting this book! I love Crystal Paine of MoneyMakingMom.com, and am really excited to read her newest book. It definitely ties in with a lot of my financial goals for 2016. That tagline “earn more and make a difference” is exactly what I need to do!
#3 Sleep Smarter: 21 Proven Tips to Sleep Your Way to a Better Body, Better Health and Bigger Success by Shawn Stevenson
I heard about this book on Shawn Stevenson’s podcast, The Model Health Show (which I recommend! It’s awesome). Sleep is an area of my life where I really struggle. It seems to get worse and worse every day, and I can no longer blame my babies since they are both pretty much sleeping through the night. Sleep greatly impacts our health and wellness, and I am noticing many negative affects of years of bad sleep.
#4 The Fringe Hours: Making Time for You by Jessica Turner
I have really lost myself since becoming a mother. I don’t do much for myself anymore and it that has impacted both my self esteem and my marriage. I keep hearing this book recommended and I really hope it will inspire me to put me first in 2016.
#5 Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook: How to Tell Your Story in a Noisy Social World by Gary Vaynerchuk
I wish I had half the work ethic, energy and drive of Gary Vee! I have watched many of his videos online, but never read one of his books. This one interests me the most due to my love of social media marketing.
#6 If At Birth You Don’t Succeed: My Adventures with Disaster and Destiny by Zach Anner
I discovered Zach Anner via YouTube in 2015. Zach has cerebral palsy and is an all around amazing guy with a great sense of humor. If you don’t know him, check out his YouTube Channel now. If I’m feeling down about life, he is my go-to guy for an instant smile and fresh perspective on life. I can’t wait to read his book which is being released in March – just in time for my birthday!
#7 Wake Up Happy: The Dream Big, Win Big Guide to Transforming Your Life by Michael Strahan
I used to be a huge Good Morning America fan, but I don’t catch it often anymore since I cut back on morning TV time. I loved when Michael Strahan joined the crew. I wasn’t already familiar with him since I’m not a football fan. But I liked him instantly because of his awesome personality and extremely positive attitude. I can’t wait to read his tips for waking up happy!
#8 The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of De-Cluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo
I’m always on a quest to be more organized and cleaner. Usually a failed quest! This much talked about book should be a good read for me.
#9 After You: A Novel by Jojo Moyes
Me Before You (by the same author) was one of a handful of books I did find time to read in 2015. I absolutely loved it! It’s a love story, and it will make you think about life and death. I can’t even tell you much about it, with fear of spoiling it for you. After You is the sequel that I can’t wait to get my hands on!
#10 Sugar Crush: How to Reduce Inflammation, Reverse Nerve Damage, and Reclaim Good Health by Richard Jacoby and Raquel Baldelomar
The stresses of life have lead to me making poor food choices, emotional eating, and not thinking about what I put into my body. I am well aware of my poor diet (another thing I want to work on in 2016) and especially how much sugar I consume. I hope that reading about the negative affects of sugar will help me to cut back!
#11 I Quit Sugar: Your Complete 8 Week Detox Program and Cookbook by Sarah Wilson
I don’t think I want to quit sugar completely (you know I love to bake!) but I am interested in this woman’s story. Reading about her journey will hopefully motivate me to clean up my diet.
#12 How to Raise an Adult: Break Free of the Overparenting Trap and Prepare Your Kids for Success by Julie Lythcott-Haims
I started reading this one already, and it is absolutely fascinating. The author was a Dean at Stanford University and her interactions with college students greatly impacted the way she viewed parenting. This book is filled with research and I loved reading about how parenting has evolved over time.
#13 The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lasts by Gary Chapman
Another re-read for me. This classic relationship book helps you figure out how you and your partner want to receive love. I own this book and often recommend it to friends in new relationships. I haven’t read it in a few years, and not since getting married. I think I am definitely due for a re-read!
#14 And Baby Makes Three: The Six-Step Plan for Preserving Marital Intimacy and Rekindling Romance After Baby Arrives by John Gottman
One of my most important 2016 goals is to make my marriage a priority again. I am more of a mom than a wife and I hope this book will help.
#15 The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty
This book has been on my wishlist for awhile, and it sounds really intriguing. It’s also on Amazon’s Top 20 Customer Reviewed Books of all time list!

#16 A tie! Eligible: A Modern Retelling of Pride and Prejudice & Sisterland: A Novel both by Curtis Sittenfeld
Curtis Sittenfeld is one of my all time favorite authors. I own Prep (about a boarding school) and American Wife (loosely based on Laura Bush’s early life) and have ready them both over and over again. I think I would have to toss a coin to decide which of these to read first because they both sound really good to me! Luckily, Eligible doesn’t come out until April 2016, so the decision has been made for me.
#17 Bonus: Say Goodbye to Survival Mode: 9 Simple Strategies to Stress Less, Sleep More, and Restore Your Passion for Life
Another re-read for me! And another title by Crystal Paine! I reviewed this book here, but I really want to check it back out of the library and work through the action steps. I’m still operating in “survival mode” and really want to make some changes in 2016.
