Times Change & Minds Change About the ‘Mobile’ Home
~ Samantha Lewis
It was not too long ago in history that the mobile home made some people wince. Perhaps it was the image of the home resting on cement blocks as the wind tore across the land and actually shook it left and right, putting the car parked beside it in massive danger.
But in 2014, modular homes/site-built homes, have become one of the most ‘wanted’ styles in the country. Not only are they absolutely energy efficient, but they are also easy to build, beautifully structured on the outside, and the inside offers amenities of whirlpools, studies, master bedrooms, and the list goes on. Not only beauty is found, but they are also affordable, which is a highly difficult concept to grasp when it comes to real estate in the United States.
Manufactured homes are designed for energy efficiency and renewable energy. And now, with technology being at its best, even older homes can be remodeled or retrofitted to improve energy efficiency.
For those who still wince and wish to have what they refer to as a ‘real’ home, it is very important to take a look at these floor plans and understand the wealth of positives manufactured houses are bringing to the globe. The energy that is being saved is phenomenal; the systems not only provide a fantastic indoor living experience, but also do their part in saving the environment around them.
Built in a factory on a permanent chassis, these huge manufactured homes are transported to a building site and installed for the owner, saving a whole lot of misery, anxiety and tension when it comes to building a home from the basement up. Not to mention, massive costs saved.
Renewable energy is used to provide electricity, heating, and cooling for the manufactured home; these systems not only lower the owner’s energy costs, but pollution reduced from fossil fuels can not be beat.
There are many systems to choose from (or use to update or retrofit your slightly-older model). A geothermal heat pump is a system that’s getting press all over the Web. People are talking about this system, not to mention a tax credit that goes along with it for the owner who retrofits their home and installs the GHP. The GHP provides space heating and cooling and is the most cost-effective to install right of the bat, when the manufactured home is installed.
Solar designs (referred to as ‘passive’) can also be added to the home. This means adding a sunspace, landscaping the property correctly so that the home receives maximum solar exposure, again saving money.
Solar water heating is also a fantastic system to look into. Lightweight, roof-mounted air collectors can be a part of the manufactured home for water heating, as well as solar electric systems, or wind electric systems that will generate electricity for a manufactured home located in a more rural area.
Permanently-sited manufactured homes are permanent homes. This is a concept that more and more people are beginning to understand, especially as they drive by these brand new homes and wonder how the owner was able to build such an eye-pleasing, well-run house in that short amount of time. One trip to the local dealer or manufacturer – or one trip to the internet – will allow all home buyers and owners who wish to get out from under major tax bills, and/or repair costs, fuel oil costs, water costs, gas deliveries, propane deliveries, high electric bills – the chance to live in a brand new luxury home and leave those ridiculous costs behind.
Again, amenities are long and varied. Decorating styles and patterns are chosen, and being that manufactured homes by, say, Solitaire, come complete with energy-star appliances, systems, etc., you will already be putting money back into your pocket from the savings you will immediately receive on utility bills, and more.
Think you know about manufactured homes? Think again! Times have changed and minds have changed, so explore what’s out there and always keep in mind that at the same time the new home is saving you money, it is also saving a ‘piece’ of that outdoor world that your kids and grandkids should be allowed to enjoy safely for a good, long time.
Do your part!
