AARP Tax Assistance
Tuesdays, April 1, 8, 15 @ 10am – 2pm
Thursdays, April 3 & 10 @ 10am – 2pm

The AARP Tax-Aide program offers free, one-on-one counseling to help individuals prepare basic tax forms, including the 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, and other standard schedules. Counseling is available to all low-to-middle income taxpayers, regardless of age. No advance registration is needed; people will be taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. Individuals must bring a photo ID, last year’s tax return, and all relevant tax information with them.

Storytimes are every Wednesday through April 30. Baby & Toddler storytimes are for children up to 18 months. Craft time is open to all children and focuses on teaching scissor, glue and coloring skills. Preschool storytimes are open to any child who can sit for longer stories and participate in active songs. Come for songs, stories, and fun. We look forward to seeing you. To ensure everyone is able to enjoy quality storytimes, we have a maximum capacity of 50.

Relax with Raindrop Therapy
Thursday, April 3 @ 6pm   
Give your feet a treat by experiencing Raindrop Therapy. Inspired by the Lakota Indians, Raindrop Therapy uses therapeutic oils for balancing and rejuvenating the mind and body. When properly applied to the neck, back and feet, these essential oils can bring about electrical alignment and help relieve a variety of discomforts caused by imbalances in the body. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Anastasia Island Branch Library.

 

Gentle Stretching with Gina
Friday, April 4 and 11 @ 10:30am
This free class emphasizes stretching, coordination of breath with movement, and attention to alignment. The class is designed to create breath awareness, enhance balance, and increase flexibility. Stretching is great for those who are experiencing joint sensitivity, or overall stiffness. Wear loose clothing, bring a towel & mat. Presented by yoga instructor, Gina Mercado.

New Disney DVD Release Family Movie Event
Friday, April 4 @ 3:30pm

(PG) Bring in the whole family to enjoy this new Disney DVD release. Fearless optimist, Anna,teams up with Kristoff in an epic journey. Encountering Everest-like conditions, and a hilarious snowman named Olaf, they race to find Anna’s sister Elsa, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom in eternal winter. Light snacks will be provided by the Friends of the Anastasia Island Branch Library.

Knit Wits Knitting Club for Kids & Teens

The Knit Wits is a family affair. Kids 8-17 are welcome to learn to knit, or bring along mom so she can learn too. Learn to knit, or bring in something you’ve already started, and knit with the group. Please bring your own knitting needles, if you have them.

Teen Epic Movie Event

(PG13) Come see the second part in the epic tale of Bilbo Baggins. The dwarves, along with Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf the Grey, continue their quest to reclaim Erebor, their homeland, from Smaug. Tai-Chi: Enter the Healing Journey
Friday, April 25 @ 10:30am
In this first of a three part journey into the ancient Chinese healing exercise, you will learn and practice Tai-Chi. In class, students will perform soft, continuous movements that will allow them to receive many positive aspects of renewed health, while developing internal stillness. Some of the benefits of Tai-Chi include: relief from muscular tension and anxiety, increased concentration and memory, enhanced sensory awareness, and improved balance. This free workshop is presented by Hector M. Ruiz, Jr., a certified instructor in Tai-Chi and Qi Gong.

Adult Crochet Group
Every Tuesday @ 6pm
Adults and teens (Age 14+) are invited to attend the Project Lap Blanket crochet group at the Bartram Trail Branch Library. The group will crochet or knit blankets for cancer patients at area hospitals. All skill levels are welcome. Can’t come to any of the meetings? Pick up the crochet pattern at the Reference Desk in the library and crochet the blanket in your spare time. Drop off completed blankets, and any yarn you’d like to donate, during regular library hours.

MAIN

 

The Main Library will be closed through April for renovations and improvements that include a complete update of the restroom facilities and the reconfiguration of the Children’s Library and Adult Reading Area. Patrons wishing to utilize hold services during the closure should contact the Main Library at 827-6940 to designate a secondary pick up location. The book drop will remain open for items to be returned. Any items that would have normally been due during the closure will not be due until May 1. SJCPLS thanks patrons for their patience and understanding during the renovation period.

Just for Babies and Family Storytimes
Ms. Anne presents programs for little ones.
Just for Babies - Held the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays at 10:15am; for babies up to 15 months and their caregivers. This infant lapsit is designed for one-on-one interaction between caregiver and baby. Families with multiple children are encouraged to attend Family Storytime.
Family Storytime - Held every Tuesday morning at 11am; for children 16 months – 5 years and their families, though no child will be turned away

Teen Gaming Night

Teens (Ages 13-18) are invited to have fun with friends at the library. National Library Week Kick-Off Event: Sesame Street Festival

Free Nemours Bright Start Screenings for Ages 3 – 5

Children ages 3-5 are invited to receive a free, 10-minute Early Literacy Screening at the library, courtesy of Nemours BrightStart. Registration is taken on a first-come, first serve basis by a Nemours representative. Utilize this free screening to find out where your child’s literacy strengths lay and what you can do to help them improve in any other areas before they start school. This special monthly offering is yet another reason to love your library – happy National Library Week.

The Community Room will be organized with an eclectic collection of books in excellent condition. The “Better Books Room” will have its share of volumes that any patron would be happy to own at reasonable prices. Tuesday’s preview is open only to Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library members. This is your chance to get first choice of books. You can become a Friend of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library at Seymour’s Book Store or at the event. Membership begins at just $25. Wednesday through Saturday, the Book Sale will be open to the public. Saturday will once again be Bag Day, where each bag of books is $8. All proceeds go to support the Friends’ Mission to make our library an outstanding educational, cultural, civic, and recreational center for the community.

Money Smart Week: Teen Coffeehouse

Celebrate Teen Literature Day: Book Talks
Accepting Submission through Thursday, April 17
Attention teens: We are seeking Book Talks that celebrate teen literature to post on the Southeast Blog. Book Talks may be no more than 30 seconds and must be about a teen book. Fiction, non-fiction, and graphic novels are all acceptable. Book Talks need to be submitted to Miss Kristine or Miss Alex by Thursday, April 17. Call the library at 827-6900 for more information.

Southeast Movie Night
