However, these are not the only bands and artists unleashing new albums into the world today. Here’s a rundown of some other new albums for your consideration this weekend.
Animals As Leaders – The Madness of Many (Sumerian Records)
An exclusively instrumental progressive metal band comprised of two guitarists and a drummer. It wouldn’t necessarily be to everyone’s taste, but Animals As Leaders have presented this very niche approach to composing music in four surprisingly accessible albums. The band, founded in 2007, announced via social media earlier this year that they were working on their fourth studio album entitled The Madness of Many. Expect long tracks that lead you through unexpected riffs that jump from complex compositions to softer moments of heavy metal romanticism. It’s definitely one to venture into with open ears.
Enigma – The Fall of a Rebel Angel (Universal)
Michael Cretu, the mastermind behind Enigma, the German project that redefined electronic music of the 1990s by popularising Gregorian chanting in their seminal hits, ‘Return To Innocence’ and ‘Sadeness’, returns with a new studio album. The Fall of a Rebel Angel ends an eight year absence since Enigma’s last record. Described as a concept album based upon an epic poem written specifically for this record by German lyricist, Michael Kunze. Twelve chapter like songs will tell the story of a male protagonist’s journey of development and betterment to a discover a more fulfilling life. Let’s hope it sounds as fulfilling as the hits from Enigma’s repertoire.
The Rolling Stones – Havana Moon (Universal)
March 25th 2016 was an historic day for both Cuba and The Rolling Stones, as the band performed the first free outdoor concert on a Good Friday to a mammoth crowd in Havana. So monumental was the event that is was recorded for a DVD and this live album, Havana Moon. Following the concert, which included a healthy setlist of ‘Paint It Black’, ‘Angie’, and ‘Sympathy For The Devil’, lives reviews of the event praised the band’s spectacular and formidable show. Havana Moon is a nice appetite awakener for Stones fans to get even more excited for their forthcoming studio album, Blue & Lonesome, due at the start of December.
Sleigh Bells – Jessica Rabbit (Torn Clean)
It’s strange to think that six years have passed since the release of Brooklyn based pop-noise music making duo Sleigh Bells released their debut album, Treats. After a three year hiatus, Alexis and Derek return with Jessica Rabbit, their fourth record and first to be put out via the duo’s label, Torn Clean. The singles from the album, ‘I Can Only Stare’ and ‘It’s just Us Now’, indicate a more conventional and polished approach to their abrasive sound.
