WHO ARE WE?
Howling Wolf Ventures is a boutique firm that seeds, incubates and develops new business projects, chiefly in the Interactive Digital Media (IDM) space. Founded by two former venture capitalists with a combined 22 years of experience spanning four continents, we firmly believe that top-notch execution is the main determining factor for the success of any new venture. Having the right people on board has been key to our success.
A career at Howling Wolf Ventures is not only exciting, it is also a fast-paced journey of learning and growth unlike any other. You will be exposed to a wide variety of business functions within a short period of time, and experience the full growth trajectory of new business start-ups from seeding to consolidation to exit. You will also work with a wide array of talented individuals from different backgrounds and nationalities, and will gain deep insights into regional and international markets. We believe that through empowering people to take important decisions, we will be able to unleash latent potential and creativity – which will be beneficial to both the individual and the team.
OUR MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATE PROGRAM
Our Management Associate (MA) Program is designed to fast-track promising young graduates into junior managerial positions in one of our portfolio companies within 6 to 12 months.
Candidates who are selected for the Program will undergo three phases of rigorous training, during which they will be exposed to a wide variety of functions including marketing, business development, product management, talent management, finance and strategy. Selected candidates may also be sent for overseas attachments during the third phase of their training.
Unlike some other organisations, we take the term “management” seriously. To us, management is synonymous with leadership. A manager is one who is able to harness the potential of the most important assets under his/her charge – people. Our managers will be developed to lead small teams of people within a safe, structured and hands-on learning environment.
Our MA Program is suitable for individuals who are interested in entrepreneurship (particularly technology entrepreneurship) and who might be considering becoming entrepreneurs at some point in the future. While working with us, MAs will be exposed to the full growth trajectory of a new venture, from conceptualisation to seeding to execution to growth – and eventually, exit.
WHO WE WANT
- You have at least an undergraduate degree and six months of work experience (including internships, part-time employment and full-time employment). Or, in lieu of a university degree, you have at least three years’ work experience.
- You are outgoing, charismatic, confident and have strong people skills. You are able to build rapport with people you meet for the first time.
- You are independent, motivated and adventurous. You want to work for a start-up because it’s fun and exciting, but also because you know you will be able to make lots of money once the business takes off.
- You loathe bureaucrats, pen-pushers and bullshitters. Though you are an excellent conversationist, you have an over-arching desire to get epic shit done.
- You think outside the box and find innovative ways to solve problems instead of just ducking them and referring them to someone in “authority”.
- You are a great team player, have a fun personality, and have interests that others might find unusual. You are proud of being unconventional, and you appreciate others for who they are. You do not judge others using conventional yardsticks. And above all you are someone who is regarded as having integrity, and would never do anything to sabotage another person.
- You are well-travelled and have at least five friends from different countries. You are fascinated by other cultures and schools of thought. You read books. You have book-marked Wikipedia. You are intellectually curious and believe that you can learn something new every day.
- You are interested in entrepreneurship. You believe that entrepreneurship can change the world we live in. You have aspirations to attempt a start-up of your own, or play a key role in a start-up later in your career – because it’s SO much cooler than being a banker or an accountant! By the way, it’s totally okay with us if you have attempted a start-up and failed – tell us the reasons why it failed and how the lessons you learnt have made you stronger!
WHO WE DO NOT WANT
- You are looking to do the bare minimum in order to not get fired – please note that even if you get through our interviews, you will still get found out eventually, and you WILL get fired when you do!
- You are a shameless, materialistic social climber who worships at the altar of ‘blue chip’ companies and dreams of working for a Goldman Sachs, a McKinsey, or a KPMG. Your life’s ambition is to own a condo, a Porsche, and pop bottles at Pangaea just because you secretly harbour a bitter jealousy towards the rich kids in your class. Sadly, you have failed to get the attention of the big boys and desperately need a job to tide yourself through, so you think you might try your luck with us. We have news for you – there’s a reason why they rejected you, and it is the same reason why we are likely to reject you too.
- You are socially awkward, dislike meeting new people, and prefer to knock off at 6 pm sharp so you can go home and play DOTA with ‘friends’ you’ve never met in real life. Because you don’t have any friends in real life. And you’re too wimpy to do anything about it.
- You are a stickler for convention. You do stuff because everyone else is doing it, and not because you actually believe in what you do. In fact, you don’t really know what you believe in, and you want this job because you think it will help you “find yourself”. (Advice: you need to find a shrink, not an employer).
- You believe that the way to advance your career is to simply do your time. In the meantime, you want to be spoon-fed with knowledge and skills. (Advice: go back to school).
