Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink confirmed that the club are on the verge of signing United States and New York Red Bulls defender Matt Miazga. The 20-year-old completed a medical with the reigning Premier League champions on Thursday and is set to complete his switch from MLS at any minute.

Hiddink talked about the move in his weekly pre-match press conference today and confirmed reports that Miazga will not be loaned out after he arrives at Stamford Bridge.

"We don't rush him but he will be one of the squad members for the future," Hiddink said of Miazga.

"He's a young guy stepping up to the national team and it's always good to have such players here so you can see what they are capable of in training.

"He's a young player, a promising player -- let's see if he can get himself to the high demands of this club and the Premier League."

This is tremendous news for anyone worried that Miazga was just another signing to lump into the famed Chelsea Loan Army. The club appears to really rate the youngster and will give him every chance of breaking into the first team. With John Terry at the end of his contract in the summer and Gary Cahill expressing his discontent lately, the door could be open for Miazga to earn a spot sooner rather than later.
