The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort

Welcomes Gabriel Redding to the Finish Line!

Crossing the Finish Line on St. Simons Island

St. Simons Island, GA (July 2013)       Musician, composer, philanthropist and long-distance runner Gabriel Redding ran across America from Santa Monica, California (June 7, 2013) to St. Simons Island, Georgia (July 18, 2013) in a record-breaking 42 days – 7 hours and 38 minutes. Following his 2009 bicycle ride across the USA, a 3,200 mile adventure that benefitted the Multiple Sclerosis Society, this year’s run was planned specifically  to benefit those with Alzheimer’s and Dementia, honoring his grandfather Bill Redding.

Redding’s close family members and island fans cheered him across the finish line on the East Beach near St. Simons Island’s Coast Guard Museum, where he dipped his hands into the Atlantic Ocean. Acknowledged as an amazing feat by The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort, he and his two aunts, grandparents and Manager Doretta Osburn enjoyed a comfortable night’s rest after relaxing and sharing celebratory appetizers & fruit punch in the King’s Tavern.

Redding’s 2,440 mile solo run broke prior fastest running attempts in Guinness World Records, as his rigorous daily routine averaged 50-70 miles of running per day. To maintain his stamina and good health, he consumed 8,000 calories daily, although he lost approximately 15 pounds during the weeks. His personal manager Doretta planned each detail of the route and followed closely in her car throughout the 6-week expedition. This run is one of many philanthropic charity events in which Gabriel makes a difference in the world (American Heart Association, American Celiac Society, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Healing Hands International) and others.

A nationally touring musician based in Nashville, Tennessee, Gabriel Redding performs at military bases and colleges across the country and has spent 25 days performing for the troops in the Middle East on a USO/AFE tour. His music, like his running, is filled with positivity, determination, hope and a dash of adventure.
