Relax with Raindrop Therapy

Give your feet a treat by experiencing Raindrop Therapy. Inspired by the Lakota Indians, Raindrop Therapy uses therapeutic oils for balancing and rejuvenating the mind and body. Bring in your family to meet Captain William Mayhem (from the Pirate Museum) and be mystified by his magical pirate talents. See some cool pirate artifacts during this hour long pirate adventure show. This very special Viva Florida 500 and Summer Reading Wrap up program is sponsored by the Friends of the Anastasia Island Branch Library. To ensure that everyone is able to enjoy the program, there will be 95 tickets available 1 hour before each show.  Children of all ages may attend; please be aware, however, that the Summer Reading Programs are geared toward the school-age child.

Teen Craft: Awesome Locker Accessories

Writers’ Theater Partnership

Tuesday, August 13 @ 6pm
A four-part program dedicated to bringing out the best in your play, screenplay or short story. Fellow writers and participants will help you develop your work by reading aloud and providing feedback. The program will run the second Tuesday of the month for three months, always beginning at 6pm: July 9th,August 13th and September 10th. Children’s FLYP Event: Turtle Talk

Join turtle advocate, Jade Dupuis, from St. Johns County Environmental Division, as she teaches us about the amazing turtles found in our area and why they need our help. Sea turtles are among the oldest creatures on earth and they are currently threatened. The beaches of northeast Florida are an important summer nesting area for loggerhead, green, and leatherback sea turtles. Discover how we can share and protect the beaches. We think our turtle friends are so cool, we’ll even celebrate nesting season with a “turtle” ice cream party. Magician Mark Alan presents an anti-bullying program that’s sure to make a difference. S.T.A.N.D. This program is intended for elementary-age children, but is fun for all. All rising 6th – 12th graders are invited to join us for our final Teen Summer Reading Program movie based on a book celebrating the theme Beneath the Surface. Join us for The Host, based on the novel by Stephenie Meyer. According to Amazon.com, “…Earth has been taken over by aliens in crisp white outfits – each one taking over a human ‘host’ so that the alien race can save the planet.” Everything and everyone are not as they seem on the surface. Pizza and sodas will be served and copies of the book will be raffled. For those who have read the book, a copy of the movie will be raffled to teens who submit a book review at the program. Did you have a great time at the lizard-themed Nature Detective Workshops for Kids this summer or just want to know more about lizards? Everyone is invited to meet children’s author and lizard expert, Marta Magellan. In this free, interactive program, learn more about her book, Those Lively Lizards, and become lizard experts. Marta will be selling copies of her book, donating 10% of the proceeds to our library, and raffling two copies of the book. Free Nemours BrightStart Screenings for Ages 3 – 5

Tuesday, August 20 from 10am – 12:30pm

Children ages 3-5 are invited to receive a free, 10-minute Early Literacy Screening at the library,courtesy of Nemours BrightStart. Registration is taken on a first-come, first serve basis by a Nemours representative. Utilize this free screening to find out where your child’s literacy strengths lay and what you can do to help them improve in any other areas before they start school.

Nature Detective Workshop for Kids

Children (Age 6-12) are invited to a hands-on workshop to become Nature Detectives. Kids will learn all about lizards, including how to spot them and how these pollinators relate to gardening. Every child will receive free gardening goodies, including Nature Detective notebooks. This workshop is designed by the Sisterhood of the Traveling Plants, presented by the Geranium Circle, and sponsored by the Garden Club of St. Augustine and the Friends of the Southeast Branch Library. S.T.A.N.D. Against Bullying with Mark Alan
