Rico Garcia pitched seven solid innings, while Tyler Tokunaga and Austin Inaba both batted 3-for-5 with two RBIs as the Hawaii Pacific baseball team beat Holy Names 10-3 in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday in Alameda, Calif.
Garcia allowed two runs and four hits with five strikeouts.
In the seven-inning second game, Jayse Bannister pitched a six-hitter and Alex Denobriga had a two-run single in the Hawks’ 3-2 victory.
The Sharks’ William Leskovec had a two-run double in the sixth inning. HPU moved to 22-12, 14-10 PacWest, while Holy Names went to 6-27, 4-16.
Beeman to speak at QB Club
University of Hawaii women’s basketball coach Laura Beeman will be the featured speaker at the Honolulu Quarterback Club on Monday at Maple Garden Restaurant.
This season, Beeman led the Wahine to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1998, the sixth time in program history.
Lunch starts at 11:30 a.m., with a cost of $16 per person. The program starts at noon.
PacWest teams struggle at TOC
The Hawaii Pacific softball team dropped both of its games on the second day of the Tournament of Champions, falling 10-5 to Cal State Monterey Bay and 8-0 to Sonoma State in Turlock, Calif.
The Otters broke away from a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fifth, seizing control of the game with consecutive four-run innings to break the game open. Bianca Noriega earned the win and had a game-high three hits.
The Sharks could only scratch out two hits against the Seawolves, as Amanda Llerena tossed a gem, striking out 10 and walking two in a complete-game effort.
Kayla Sanchez had three hits to lead the Sharks, who dropped to 13-21.

The Silverswords were stifled by Otters starter Brooke Langeloh, who struck out 11 in a complete game to improve to 13-1 on the year. The ‘Swords fell victim to another quality pitching performance to the Seawolves as Gabby Dupree pitched four shutout innings in relief, striking out four and giving up just one hit.

Billi Derleth improved to 12-7 this year after surrendering three runs, six hits and four walks against the Clan.
The Vulcans struggled defensively in game two and couldn’t rally after the Toros broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth. Cristina Menjivar had a team-high two hits for UHH, which had four hits total in the game.
Hawaii Hilo golf places 19th in Arizona
The Hawaii Hilo women’s golf team finished in 19th place at the women’s Mustang Intercollegiate on the Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz.
Kristen Sawada led the Vulcans with a 30th-place individual finish.
Tarleton State claimed the tournament with a team total of 579, which was 11 strokes ahead of runner-up Northwestern State. TSU’s Casey Wild and Isabell Jimenez Perea tied for medalist honors at 2-under 142.
