Because this is cute
literally nothing is stopping you from putting on a petticoat and getting a damn milkshake how many times do we as a society have to go though this
Like I swear to fucking god, you can have the aesthetic without wishing for everything from an awful time period to come back.
They’re not talking about a milkshake or petticoats. They’re talking about how dating in the 1950′s was portrayed as relatively innocent ‘getting to know you’ and doing sweet, romantic things together, and not expecting sex at a pre-determined point in time, rather than now when you aren’t allowed to call someone your bf/gf unless it’s official on Facebook, when you have to play games and play hard to get, follow rules like girls can’t text first or say ‘I love you’ first in a hetero relationship, otherwise you’re automatically labelled ‘clingy’. They’re talking about how dating used to be simple, and comparing it to now, when it’s complicated and ruthless.
If you think dating in the fifties was s cakewalk, I suggest you go consult your grandparents. Human relationships have always been minefields of passion and dread.
Also at least one of my dates as a teenager would have gotten me lynched and a few others committed, because girls who date outside their race and girls who date other girls had a hella bad time in the 50s.
Go read a dating guide from the 50s. The contortions young women had to go through not to be considered clingy, “fast”, or anything else were BONKERS. There were SO MANY stupid headgames and rules. It was actually worse than now in a lot of ways.
