Welcome back to the Paper Crafts Crew Challenge! This week we have a tic-tac-toe challenge:
This was not as easy as you'd think. For one thing, there is a lot of stuff that I just don't do anymore, like torn or crumpled paper, but I decided that using the center vertical row would be a great opportunity to pull out Sketch Ranunculus from Simon Says Stamp. It's one of those sets that sells out often, so when I finally managed to get it I was thrilled and put it in my stash for just such an occasion.

Flowers - check!
Shimmer - Wink of Stella! check!
Shabby Chic - Needs lots of ribbon knots. I don't use a lot of ribbon anymore, but that doesn't mean I don't have (cough) any! Check!
I wanted to do some resist with white EP and use watercolors. I've been sitting and playing with stamps while playing videos on YouTube lately, and on one of Amy Rysavy's videos (Prairie Paper & Ink), she recommended Canson XL Watercolor paper with Zig Clean Color markers, and since I happened to have a pad of that in the stash, I pulled everything out and got busy. Lookie:
GOJUS! (YILM!) I used a 6 x 6 paper pad from Penny Black that is one of my absolute faves, Painted Blooms. Very shabby, very chic. I pulled all the colors from that pad when choosing my Zig Clean Color markers.
I stamped one piece of watercolor paper with the beautiful flowers and leaves, and colored them in with the Zigs, adding different shades of warm pink and moving the colors around with a water brush. The leaves were painted with two shades of green, but when I got them finished I found that the colors just were too bright. So I painted over the top with the Oatmeal marker, and it toned those colors down to where they were quite acceptable. i made sure to color outside the lines so I didn't have a white edge sticking out beyond my outside line of stamping. I then cut these out by hand because I don't have the matching dies (though I link them up below) and because I wasn't sure I could easily get a good image with the Pixscan since the image lines were white. And also because I was just too lazy to fiddle with it! You can see my ribbon knots, which consists of some very old Dashes, Dots, & Checks dotted organdy ribbon, some beautiful pale brown satin I got for free from Ellen Hutson (they always include a small amount of satin ribbon in their packages and I like the crafty hoarder I am, I tuck them away for future use), and some old retired Creamy Caramel gingham ribbon from Stampin' Up! I really miss the great assortment of gingham ribbon you used to be able to find! I hoard it too!
I then taped another piece of watercolor paper to a clipboard, wet it down, and started adding soft color around the edges, moving toward the center but leaving the center white. I also sprinkled a bit of Pale Rose by coloring on an acrylic block and flicking the color off the side and sprinkled water dots as well and blotted them up. Once I dried the paper with my heat tool, I pulled the tape off carefully. I loved the messy edge and decided to leave it to tie in to the shabby aspect of Shabby Chic. For the greeting, I stamped twice with my MISTI, first with Rich Cocoa from Memento and then again with the Celestial Copper Delicata pad. I wasn't sure the Delicata ink would be dark enough, so stamping with a nice brown first gave it some oomph.
You can see the delicate shimmer the Delicata pad adds.
I painted clear Wink of Stella over all the flowers plus that little heart that's up near the greeting for a nice subtle shimmer.
I LOVE how this turned out. It's so much more beautiful in person!
