Director Web Marketing and Branding

CLIENT:

Client is a well respected thought leader in financial, consumer and health related publishing based in Connecticut. This position derives from the new strategic mission to enhance the current newsletter and digital imprint with bold marketing and expansion initiatives.

POSITION:

The Web Marketing Director position is responsible for driving the strategic direction and overseeing the day-to-day management and implementation of client’s digital activities.  The position will provide leadership across the company on digital activities that enhance the client’s mission and build its business objectives. The successful candidate will build BL Publications Website into a significant destination that reflects the Bottom Line legacy as provider of the most useful and trustworthy information on the world wide web.   Initially new site will be created based on an expansion/evolution of the current BL Publications website by expanding the current site with, for example, new departments and/or functionality, and providing a clear message regarding the unique value that people get from gathering their information from the BL Publications website.  Develop other web-based businesses that drive off of the BL Publications web positioning, including but not limited to expansion/optimization of email business, video programming, audio programming and other resources that can help provide answers for our visitors.

RESPONSIBLITIES:

Strategy:

Develop long and short-term digital strategies and initiatives to meet the business objectives.

Partner across the company to align marketing objectives and build integrated plans that maximize the value of the client’s products and franchises.

Drive more sophisticated web analytics that provide higher levels of customer intelligence and inform decision-making, investment and growth, working closely with Reporting.

Management:

Oversee the day-to-day management of all digital activities, including email marketing deployment, in-house promotions, ad partnerships, internet marketing programs, creative testing, web development. Manage, but also be hands on, working closely with web programming team and editors to expand the offerings

Work closely with all client divisions, providing direction and coordinating the production of digital content, new builds, marketing efforts, etc.

Understand building brands from the customer point of view and what they want and what their experience with us is.

Experience managing ad-supported content email business.

Work with editors and web team to increase open rates and circulation numbers

Experience with co-registration as potential source for expansion of email circulation

Understands the importance of integration between content and ad sales in order to effectively monetize the website.

Web Reporting – work with Analysis and Web team on creation and distribution of regular tracking reports for web activity.

Set performance metrics and clear deliverables, staying focused on the most important data.

Establish brand assurance guidelines and support the use of those brands in the digital space, protecting client’s base for renewals, upsell and new products.

Ensure best-in-class digital practices are implemented.

Build a strong project management foundation.

Strive for and set an example of operational excellence and a culture of performance.

Budget:

Manage budget to maximize efficiencies and effectiveness of the company’s digital operations.

Participate in annual budgeting and re-forecasting process.

Maintain an effective P&L to validate investment based on metrics.

Agency/Partner Management:

Hire, supervise and build relationships with outside vendors, clients and partners.

Develop a wide network of potential vendors to support the growing digital business, enabling the quick expansion and contraction of resources.

Develop intra-company processes and communication vehicles to ensure that internal and external partners are fully briefed on new projects and deliverables are made clear.

Stay up to date on industry trends in the digital marketplace and continuously make recommendations to how client can implement new features, programs and products to drive revenue.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE

Creative problem-solver who works well both independently and as part of a team; able to foster and develop other’s ideas as well as his/her own.

Proven ability to manage multiple priorities.

Solid communication, organizational and people skills.

Ability to meet deadlines and work well under time constraints and pressure.

Ability to communicate effectively with clients, vendors and all levels of management.

Project management and supervisor management skills.

Knowledge of email best practices and direct marketing methodology.

Experience with web analytics.

Agency/vendor relationship management.

PPC, SEM, SEO, Display, text, affiliate marketing knowledge and experience.

Some knowledge of HTML, CSS, content management, server technology.

Understanding of internet usage trends, technology trends, etc.

COMPENSATION:

Depending on experience $150K + plus appropriate benefits
