Tonight, the Ritz East welcomes Alex Karpovsky, a star of HBO’s super popular show, Girls, for the Philadelphia screening of his film Red Flag, as part of the Philadelphia Jewish Film Festival. Watch the comedic yet relatable film and hear from Karpovsky who will be in attendance.

Two out-of-town breweries are calling Philadelphia home this evening. Sip brews from Brooklyn Brewery and Deschutes Brewery at numerous events in the region. How’s that for a hump day pick-me-up?

• Red Flag at the Ritz East: As part of the 2013 Philadelphia Jewish Film Festival, a screening of Red Flag fills the screen at the Ritz East. The hilarious film, starring and written by Alex Karpovsky who can be seen in the hit show Girls, tells the story of the exaggerated life of Karpovsky as he embarks on a Southern film tour. Tickets are available online and at the door. For those looking to chat with Alex Karpovsky himself, he’ll be in attendance at this evening’s event. Following the screening, head to Stratus Rooftop Lounge for an after-party with Karpovsky and other members of the film’s staff.

• Deschutes Brewery Base Camp Week: All week long, Oregon’s Deschutes Brewery brings a taste of the Pacific Northwest to Philadelphia with a solid lineup of beer-fueled events to the City of Brotherly Love. Sample the brewery’s variety of brews at a number of events slated for this week. Tonight, choose from a beer and cheese pairing at The Foodery, a pin-up party at Varga Bar and much more. • Brooklyn Brewery Mash at Time Restaurant: For one week and one week only, Brooklyn Brewery calls Philadelphia home for its Brooklyn Brewery Mash, a special series of events benefiting Slow Food USA. Tonight, stop by Time Restaurant, the festival hub, for an evening of cask ale. Sample Brooklyn Brews prepared the old fashioned way from 5 to 7 p.m.

• Philadelphia Museum of Art Contemporary Craft Show Preview Party: Be one of the first lucky Philadelphians to check out this year’s Contemporary Craft Show presented by the Philadelphia Museum of Art at its highly-anticipated preview party. This year’s show brings the work of more than 200 artists from the United States and Lithuania to the City of Brotherly Love. A number of special events take the spotlight this evening. Learn about the stories and meanings behind the museum’s medieval collection on the Hidden History tour, participate in a yoga class in on Great Stair Hall’s balcony, make take-home crafts and more. • DanceAfrica Philadelphia: To kick off the first-ever DanceAfrica Festival in Philadelphia, the Community Education Center hosts African Dance in America: Reclaiming, Embodying and Dialoguing with Traditions, a free roundtable discussion from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The discussion will be led by Dr. Kariamu Welsh whose company is featured in the DanceAfrica festival. It brings together members of Philadelphia’s African dance and drumming community in a discussion about the value of African dance and drumming to Philadelphia.

• Great Voyages Lecture: Ferdinand Magellan at the Penn Museum: The Penn Museum ushers in the second night of its lectures series, Great Voyages: Travels, Triumphs, and Tragedies based on major voyages drawn from thousands of years of human history.
