This position is located at the Henderson Mill site off of CO-9 between Kremmling, CO and Silverthorne, CO. This is a rural, alpine area approximately 2 hours from the Denver metropolitan area. The mill is at an altitude of approximately 10,000 feet. In the winter the average high temperature is 28 degrees and the average low is 0 degrees. In the summer the average high temperature is 75 degrees and the average low is 40 degrees. The average snowfall in Summit/Grand counties is in excess of 250 inches per year.

Under general supervision, provides technical advice and guidance in metallurgical testing and analysis at assigned site.

Assist in metallurgical study, development, testing and analyses of designs, processes or procedures

Report on metallurgical or process issues and makes recommendation to Chief Metallurgist on how to resolve/correct the issues

Review and recommend new or enhanced metallurgical testing equipment or protocols

Contribute to the improvement of metallurgical process

Evaluate and administer contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment

Provide guidance and counsel to the site management team on applicable programs, practices and existing/proposed local, state and federal regulations

Maintain current working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local regulations

Perform other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy or related engineering discipline and three (3) years experience in metallurgy or closely related engineering field, OR

Master's degree in Metallurgy or related Engineering discipline and two (2) years related experience in metallurgy or related engineering field

Knowledge of the principles and methods used in complex metallurgical and processing analyses

Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions

Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions

Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

Qualifications:

Preferred

Experience as a metallurgical engineer or front line supervisor in a sulfide mineral concentrator

Operating Concentrator experience with mineral processing unit operations examples: ore crushing, AG/SAG grinding, ball mill grinding, slurry pumping, froth flotation, thickening, filtering, mineral sample preparation, analytical analysis

Laboratory/Research experience with mineral processing unit operations examples: ore crushing, AG/SAG grinding, ball mill grinding, slurry pumping, froth flotation, thickening, filtering, sample preparation, analytical analysis

Experience with on-stream analytical equipment (PERI or Thermo Scientific)

Experience/Training with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems and Processes including internal auditing

Proficiency with data and process control statistical software (Osi PI Process Book, Minitab, JKSimMet)

Exposure to project management (budgeting, time lines, contracts, construction)

Strong skills with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint

Strong teamwork skills—must interact professionally, consistently with operators, mechanics, electricians, sourcing

Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English

Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards

Work is in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see

Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 30 pounds) during the course of the workday

Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, or manufacturing plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
