thanks for the replies guys. I have actually now done the "minton mod"but instead of changing both sets of bottom holes from 3/16" to 1/4" I only drilled the first hole to !/4"and the ones above to 7/32" and opened the top hole to #45 from 54. I have since ridden her around the country road (read a bit bumpy) around my place for about 30 miles . I think I'm going to change to a slightly heavier oil just to see what happens.
Whilst I was doing this mod I also changed the steering head bearings The originals were past their used by date, and fitted tapper roller bearings instead of the old cup and balls.
Overall I think the steering was better but also think the 1/4" diameter bottom holes would have been better at 7/32" hence trying a heavier fork oil. Having said all that I'm no expert in the black art of setting up suspension but it did feel better to me.
Whilst on the subject of steering what are peoples thoughts on steering dampers? cheers paul
