In this review on the Zenfone AR, we will be sharing our first impressions of a unique device which will surely shake up things in tech market and give rise to lot of changes and advancements in technology. Tango is the technology by Google and Asus is just the second brand to make a phone equipped with it – the first one to do so was Lenovo which used this is their recent model Lenovo Phab2 Pro.

Asus has taken this technology one step further by adding the support of Daydream, Google’s Virtual Reality that is built into the latest Android 7.0 Nougat OS. Yes!! What you are seeing is real. Asus Zenfone AR indeed supports both AR and VR. This unique feature makes Zenfone AR one of a kind and also makes it the first flagship device with such features.

Super AMOLED Display

Zenfone Ar is a device loaded with amazing specifications. Therefore it is quite obvious that it has to come with an amazing screen to complement other features perfectly. Asus Zenfone Ar comes with a 5.7 inch Super AMOLED display and it has a resolution of 2560 x 1440p which ensures crystal clear viewing experience. Its screen has Gorilla Glass 4.0 protection which prevents scratches or cracks which might occur due to accidental falls or any sudden impact. The plastic back of the device has a leather-like texture which gives it a high-tech look and it also has all the Tango sensors next to the camera. It might not have the deluxe design of the Zenfone 3 but Asus gave it their best shot to give this phone amazing looks that complemented its impressive technology.

Hardware

Under its stunning body, lies one of the most impressive processors in the market; the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821. This Quad Core processor is used only in high- end devices as it is one of the best around and it offers high efficiency as well as delivers extra power whenever needed. It also comes with 8 GB RAM which makes sure that those memory intensive VR and AR apps run smoothly without causing your phone to lag or hang. This is in fact the first handset which comes with 8 GB RAM. How many of you still remember the excitement around when OnePlus3 was launching a model with 6 GB RAM? Now ASUS has come and raised the bar again showing it is always one step ahead of its competition. It comes with a mammoth 256 GB of built-in storage which is more than enough space for storing your favourite songs, videos and movies or your important files and folders. Not only does it have a massive internal storage, it also comes with a microSD slot for expanding storage up to 2 TB. Other ports include a USB-C type charging slot, dual SIM slot, 3.5mm audio jack and more. There is also a physical button for home with an integrated fingerprint sensor.

Camera

ASUS Zenfone AR specifications are always the best as ASUS takes care that its users are always satisfied. Camera is always one of the most important factors when it comes to determining the excellence of specifications of any device. Zenfone AR comes with a monstrous 23.0 MP rear camera with a 0.03 sec autofocus which works in almost any lighting condition. It has no problem in locating and fixing its autofocus quickly which is a huge plus point. This device has many other photographer-friendly features such as the option to save up to 92 MP high-resolution photos by combining four individual 23.0 MP ones as well as the ability to shoot in RAW. The feature to save up to 92 MP HD photos by combining different images has been tried with many devices before with varying degree of success but Zenfone AR had no problem doing it. This device also supports 4K video recording and comes with the four axis OIS for taking the shake out of your shot but it is common these days as it is available in all flagship models these days.

AR/VR

Now let us talk about the main attraction which lights up the ASUS Zenfone AR specification list. It is none other than the AR/VR feature. It has already been mentioned that ASUS Zenfone AR is the first flagship device to have this feature, so let us find out what exactly AR/VR feels like. Mobile VR experiences are nowhere close to watching a 3D movie in a theatre but when viewing VR in Zenfone AR’s display, you can surely recoil a little if you watch a horror movie or see a bullet being fired in the demo scenes. The highly anticipated and exciting part – the AR part didn’t quite live up to the expectations as there were no Tango apps available to try out on the phone, so question marks still remain over this feature. It will be intriguing to see how it pans out especially the clothes-fitting app which was announced recently by Gap.

Verdict

Even if we were to remove the amazing features of augmented and virtual reality technology, this device will still be able to easily beat its rivals given its impressive features. It has an amazing display, sleek and slim look as well as excellent processor and mammoth RAM. You get a top camera as well as a 3300mAh battery in this device. It might have some minor flaws but they surely won’t be a factor as it still remains one of the best models to be launched till now.
