We have all noticed the old hat lying on the ground with a few coins asking for more to join them. Most just walk by street artists (“buskers”) without stopping, but some people take a real interest in these often very interesting people. There are many blogs devoted entirely to street musicians! We highlight a few

The Curious Busker Tale was set up by our Paris Spotter Jennifer Morrison, and photographer Annewil Stroo.  They really take the time to interview every street artists, and it’s a joy to read (and watch) the stories of these artists searching for musical adventures in their own creative ways.

Audren (see photo above) is a great example of a metro busker who loves when people give him a thumbs up. One of his own stories is about an American couple:
“People want to chat too sometimes, I remember an American couple once, they were just in town for a few days and they were musicians too. They stopped to talk and we ended up playing a song or two together. I didn’t want to continue after that, she had such an amazing voice”.

Buskers comes from all over the world and each of their stories are different from the others. London is very popular among buskers and buskers has been around for as long as anyone can remember. Londonbusker.com is journal for street and underground musicians of London, sharing videos of buskers life’s, like Jake Bugg and his daughter busking together or documentaries like “The Hidden World of Busking“.

Soundlandcapes is another blog devoted to Paris street music. Fewer pictures here, but lots of high quality recorded sounds!

The busker stories are often told on the streets, but some buskers also write their stories in a diary, like Marvin B Naylor from Hampshire. Read more about his life on Diary of a Busker.

The people behind the World Street Music blog have been documenting street music from all around the world since 2007. Great videos!

Are you curious about busking? Are you thinking of joining? Here is some good advice from Mookychick - Good luck!
