Huggins and Scott has just opened its second major auction of 2014,  with hundreds of lots up for grabs at a wide variety of purchase points.

The auction is headlined by the first installment of a major collection of long time collector Robert Franklin.  An avid fan of Maryland teams, Franklin’s collection includes a 1970 Baltimore Orioles World Series Championship ring; game-used and game-worn items from the Orioles, Colts and University of Maryland (including a Len Bias warm up jacket); turn-of-the-century pins and publications from the Orioles’ championship teams; vintage cards and cabinets, bobbing head dolls, awards and autographs.

As always, the auction catalog includes hundreds of vintage and modern era sports cards.  There are two different Mickey Mantle 1952 Topps cards and a 1951 Bowman rookie, Hall of Fame rookie cards including Aaron, Musial,Koufax, Clemente, Rose, Ryan and more.

Additional highlights include a scarce 1968 Topps 3-D Brooks Robinson Prototype (highest graded in the hobby); a Brooks Robinson PSA 9 rookie; a 1980 Charlotte Orioles Blue Border Cal Ripken Minor League card and more.

This particular Huggins and Scott Auction has an unusually large number of autographed lots including baseballs, bats, lithographs, photographs and others consigned by collectors from all across the country. Highlights include: signed baseballs with Ruth, Maris, Mantle, team balls from the 1920s-80s and more. Autographed flat items feature Ruth, Martin Dihigo, Miller Huggins, Honus Wagner, Walter Johnson, Alex Pompez, Foxx, Jackie Robinson, Maris, a period signed Ted Williams 1935 High School Yearbook and others.

Those who love publications will find numerous early programs, scorecards and ticket lots including World Series and All-Star Game tickets and programs; the earliest known Cal Ripken Jr. collectible ever offered (1975 Aberdeen Little League Baseball program) and many more.

The game-used section in this auction includes a 1955 Yankees Ed Lopat jersey, 1968 Tommie Aaron Braves jersey, 1969 Bob Gibson’s Cardinals pants, 1993 Cal Ripken jersey, 2002 Bobby Cox jersey, several warm up jackets and a 2002-03 LeBron James St. Vincent/St. Mary’s jersey and shorts, a 1951 Al Wahl College All-Stars vs NFL champions helmet and more.

There are high end pieces from other sports including a selection of football, basketball and hockey sets and near sets; Former Seattle Seahawks Wide Receiver Darrell Jackson’s NFC Championship Ring; a 1936 signed letter from NFL Pioneer Joe Carr; a collection of highest and only graded 1950-51 Washington Capitols 7-Up basketball cards; a number of high end LeBron James graded and autographed rookie cards and more.

If non-sports cards, coins/currency, comics, Americana or Political collecting is your cup of tea, there are high grade 18th and 19th century coins; an incredible collection of $1000 and $500 bills from the 1920s and 1930s; a seldom-seen 1860 Abraham Lincoln “Beardless” campaign ribbon; a number of large comic book lots, a number of large lots of non-sport wax boxes, sets and singles from the late 1970s and early 1980s including Star Wars; and the first ever 1953 Playboy magazine with Marilyn Monroe on the cover; and more.
