NAB has been sponsored various AFL initiatives since 2002 including NAB AFL Auskick and the NAB AFL Rising Stars Program.

In a move which is expected to spark a bidding frenzy, the Australian Financial Review has reported that AFL boss Gillon McLachlan will formally bring forward negotiations for the code’s next broadcast rights deal which could run for ten years.

The current AFL rights are held by Channel Seven, Foxtel and Telstra and expire at the end of the 2016 season.

Statistics released by the IMG Sports Technology Group (IMG STG), in the two days following Hawthorn’s victory in the AFL Grand Final, the Hawks online store, HawksNest, achieved an upsurge in merchandise related sales.

In the 36 hours following the final siren there were 37,000 unique sessions with a peak of almost 4,500 sessions just over 90 minutes after the final siren. 65% of these visitors were on a mobile device.

The most popular items have included the Premiers Stubby Holder, Premiers Polo’s and Bumper Stickers. IMG STG’s e-commerce team worked with Hawthorn to ensure immediacy to market post Grand Final, ensuring fans were aware of the unique value proposition that is attached to winning a premiership.
