What I love most about blogging is the amazing people that I connect with. A few months ago, I connected with Talia Beckett, the founder of and brilliant mind behind Pink Pearl PR. She asked if she could feature me in her weekly “Mommy Monday” post. Honored, I accepted.

The interview was posted this morning. Here is a glimpse into what we spoke about:

Talia: Tell us about yourself and how you started blogging.

Ashley: I discovered my passion for writing while I was in college. I joined the student newspaper staff when I switched majors my junior year. I ended up graduating with a degree in Journalism, but soon found that print publications were slowly being replaced with Journalism 2.0 – the Internet. I wrote freelance for magazines and newspapers after college, but began my full-time career in online marketing (content strategy to be exact). Blogging is not my job, but my hobby. It’s my way of keeping my passion for writing alive.

T: What makes your blog absolutely fabulous?

A: I’ve somehow found a way to take motherhood and fashion and roll it up into one URL. Spit Up is the New Black is honest. It’s raw. I write from the heart. I talk about Prada. I also talk about poop. And I let my readers into my life, to see what it’s really like to be a working mom juggling a baby, full-time job, and blog.

T: What types of readers are in your blog ‘pink book’?

A: I love all my readers – fellow moms, friends in real life, family members across the miles, other bloggers. I am honored that each and every one of them has taken time out of their busy day to hear what I have to say.

T: Can you offer any advice for new bloggers or female entrepreneurs looking to promote their business?

A: Don’t wait until tomorrow. Don’t wait until your design is complete or your navigation is perfect. Just start. Write with your heart. Be willing to learn the ropes. Ask for help. Join private blogger groups on Facebook (Blogging Mamas Network is fantastic) and giveaway hops to build your fan base. Bloggers are some of the most brilliant people I’ve ever met (some physically, most virtually). I am so grateful for the handful of bloggers that took me under their wing when I started out last year.
