F1 World Champ Damon Hill to be event ambassador for Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2014

Mumbai, January 7, 2014: The 11th edition of the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon, to be run on January 19, 2014 will be graced by F1 World Champion Damon Hill. Promoters Procam International today announced Great Britain’s Damon Hill, 1996 World Champion and Michael Schumacher’s main rival for the Formula One Drivers’ Championship during the mid-90s as the International Event Ambassador of USD 360,000 prize money Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon.

Damon Hill, son of late Graham Hill, and the only son of a World Champion to win the title, has had 122 Grand Prix entries, 22 Grand Prix wins, 42 Podiums, 20 Pole positions and 19 Fastest laps in his F1 racing career.

Damon Graham Devereux Hill was born on September 17, 1960, two years before his father Graham won his first driver’s title, the second coming in 1968.

The death of his father in a plane crash in 1975 left the 15-year-old in drastically reduced circumstances and Damon worked as a labourer and motorcycle courier to support his further education.

Hill started his Grand Prix career during the 1991 season as a test driver with the championship-winning Williams team while still competing in the F3000 series.

In 1996 the Williams car was clearly the quickest in Formula One and Hill went on to win the title ahead of his rookie teammate Jacques Villeneuve, becoming the only son of a Formula One champion to win the championship himself. Taking eight wins and never qualifying off the front row, Hill enjoyed by far his most successful season. At Monaco, where his father had won five times in the 1960s, he led until his engine failed, curtailing his race and allowing Olivier Panis to take his only Formula One win. Near the end of the season, Villeneuve began to mount a title challenge and took pole in the Japanese Grand Prix, the final race of the year. However, Hill took the lead at the start and won both the race and the championship after the Canadian retired.

Hill equalled the record for starting all 16 races of the season from the front row, matching Ayrton Senna in 1989 and Alain Prost in 1993. Sebastian Vettel holds the record for the highest number of front row starts in a season, with 18 in 2011.

Damon Hill will be in Mumbai from Thursday, January 16 till event day and hopes to inspire the younger generation of Indian sportsmen to work hard for glory. Overcoming adversities from early in life, Damon Hill climbed the pinnacle of success, following up his exploits on the F1 tack with sound business acumen.

When Williams made Damon Hill a Formula One driver, despite his undistinguished racing record, Frank Williams said it was because he was “a tough bastard” and he admired his “fierce inner determination.”

Mumbai, January 07, 2013: Leo Burnett won the ‘Best Use of Mobile Advertising’ for its work on a unique health awareness campaign, Donate Your Caller Tune For A Cause (DYCT) for World Health Organization Country Office for India at the Yahoo Big Idea Chair Awards 2013.

Hosted in Mumbai on 18 December 2013, the awards this year saw 426 entries from 61 agencies representing work for 137 brands and recognized creativity, innovation and imagination displayed in digital media.

‘Donate your caller tune’ is a pilot initiative for which prominent celebrities have lent their voice to create simple effective health messages. A symbolic ‘donation’ is made when people give up their regular caller tunes, replacing them with any one of these health awareness messages or subscribe to ‘Donate your caller tune’. The donation, therefore, is not asking a user for funds, but simply that s/he changes/donates or subscribes to a caller tune with a health related message O.

One can easily download the message of a favourite celebrity and use it as a caller tune on one’s own mobile handset. Instead of a conventional dial tone or popular music track, a person who calls, hears a prominent celebrity’s voice exhorting him or her to make one small lifestyle change to live a healthy and happy life.

Speaking about ideation of this campaign, Mr. Piyush Gupta, Creative Director, Leo Burnett India, said, “Our idea was to reach out to the urban Indians with creative messages for adopting a healthy lifestyle. On an average a person receives at least 15 phone calls a day, making the space of caller tune an untapped area for promoting welfare causes. Patakha Guddi kicks off Highway’s

The wait is finally over. The first song of Imtiaz Ali’s Highway, Patakha Guddi, will be released today, 7th January at 4:30 pm. The music of the film has been composed by the maestro A.R. Rahman and ever since the film’s trailer came out, all eyes and ears have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the soundtrack.

Patakha Guddi, written by Irshad Kamil and sung by the Nooran sisters from Panjab, is picturised on Highway’s leading lady, Alia Bhatt, who plays the role of Veera in the film. As she traverses through the roads of northern India, Veera gradually comes into her own and lets loose. Patakha Guddi celebrates her free spirit.

Says Imtiaz: “Patakha Guddi is about freedom. It is also about purity and wildness. Who better than the wild children of Panjabi music – Sultana and Jyoti Nooran – to sing the track? After Rockstar, it was great to collaborate with Rahman Sir again and we have tried to keep the Highway album melodious, simple and heartfelt.”

A Bollywood film without pranks on the sets of the movie is just a little difficult to believe. A movie which has a stylish, witty and smart actress like Serah Singh, one can definitely imagine loads and loads of mischief. The actress was on a spree of playing pranks on the sets of Yaariyan. Serah Singh who is just 19 year old is a youngest actor amongst her co-stars. She looks very sweet and cute but she knows how to make fun on the set by doing pranks with her friends and colleagues. On the sets of Yaariyan, her co- stars cell phone would mysteriously disappear very often and come back while leaving the set. They were always zapped and tense about the cell phone! And later they realized that it was Serah Singh who played hide and seek game with their mobiles.

The beautiful actress Serah Singh, who’s making her Bollywood debut with Yaariyan, says the film has been an amazing experience for her. “It’s been a mix of everything, chaos, tonnes of hard work and emotions. It was loads and loads of fun,” she says. When she got sick on the set many of her co-stars tried to make fun of her but director Divya Khosla made her comfortable by making feel at home showing concern and caring like a mother, sister and friend. She enjoyed the experience so much that she wants to work with the same team again. “The movie is very special and close to my heart and Divya Khosla Kumar is one of the best directors to work with. She’s been my producer and my director, all of which he is immeasurably gifted at. She’s beautiful, she’s talented, she is an exemplary humanitarian,” she said.

Sallu, the people’s star!

Actor cuts down on his upcoming film’s promotional budget for charitable causes Salman Khan is one of those who believe that he does not need gimmicks to pull the audience to the theaters. He has proved in the past that his star power is enough to set the cash counters jingling. Although with Ready he finally jumped on the bandwagon and started to promote his films, the actor still believes that hugely expensive exercises are no guarantee for a box-office hit.

According to a source, last week he spoke to Eros International, the presenters of his upcoming film Jai Ho, and requested them to revise the publicity budget. “The amount allocated was Rs 16 crore, but Salman told Sunil Lulla (the head honcho of the production house) that the upper limit for promotions should be no more than Rs 6 crore. He wants the rest of the money to be distributed among the poor and needy while on city tours,” said the source.

Lulla though flabbergasted by these unusual demands, couldn’t refuse Salman. Last heard, his company was reworking the modalities. An Eros spokesperson confirmed the news and said, “Yes, Salman and Eros have discussed the matter. Salman wants the film to reach out to as many people as possible. A part of the film’s promotional budget has now been allocated to charitable organisations.”

Kangana Ranaut crowned PETA’s hottest vegetarian.

Beating the likes of her contemporaries, Kangana Ranaut was crowned “The Hottest Vegetarian” by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

Visitors to PETAIndia.com cast their votes to help PETA choose the most alluring Vegetarian Vixen this year and Bollywood’s poster girl for fashion took the top honor.

Says PETA India Manager of Media and Celebrity Projects Sachin Bangera, “Bollywood stars are truly shining for animals by choosing to go meat-free, and Kangana’s beauty is proof that a great way to get a killer body and looks is by not eating animals”.

On several occasions Kangana has always been heard propagating the cause of vegetarianism and was even quoted stating, “We must not eat other animals. Besides, vegetarian organic food is far healthier minus all the toxins”.

PETA selected the winners based on several factors, including vote count.

After receiving rave reviews for her performance in Krrish 3,Kangana Ranaut is on a roll with Queen and Revolver Rani both of which see her essay the role of the protagonist.
