“Kamasutra 3D” in the contention list

for OSCARS 2014 in 3 categories

Rupesh Paul’s Kamasutra 3D makes a proud entry at the prestigious contention list of the 86th Academy Awards, with selection in the three categories – Best Motion Picture, Original Score and Original Song with 5 songs. It is the only movie from India contending in the music category lists. The results were announced on December 16, 2013 by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences on its official website:

http://www.oscars.org/press/pressreleases/index.html

Presented by Dr. George John (GJ Entertainments) and produced under the house of Rupesh Paul Productions Ltd. (RPPL), in co-production and project design by Sohan Roy, Kamasutra 3D is the only movie with 5 songs after The Great Gatsby to be selected in the Original Song category. The songs include – Aygiri Nandini, Saawariya, I Felt, Of Soil and Har Har Mahadeva – composed by Chennai based music directors, Sachin & Sreejith while its lyrics are penned by Rupesh Paul and Pratyush Prakash. Also scripted and penned by Rupesh Paul, the movie is set in the backdrop of the real historical milieu portraying the journey of a soulful love embodied with betrayal and war. It weaves the transformative changes in body, mind and soul by the forbidden world of sexual love and sensuality.

Recently, with the release of its work-in-progress trailer, Kamasutra 3D critically came out to be more of a Hollywood war based epic movie than a classic erotica, it hyped to be with the sensuous Sherlyn Chopra, initially. Director Rupesh Paul however confirmed that though the trailer portrays a mismated story now, he would not disappoint his viewers expecting the movie to be a classic erotica. Speaking on the Oscar entry, he stated, “Probably now we have an answer for all of them who claimed the movie to be a soft porn. Hopefully, they know that soft porns are not eligible for the Academy Award nominations”. He also claimed that he would like to genre his movie as musical than epic or erotica as he assures thatKamasutra 3D is influenced with its melody over the drama.

Its’ not just marriages, if Bollywood is to be believed then ‘heaven’ even has its’ own casting agents, making casting calls for movies to be shot on Earth. How else would one explain the chosen few, who never stand in a single audition line, yet get ‘discovered’ purely by chance and launched in films, that go on to make them stars?

Interesting films often have equally filmy, behind the scene stories. Case in point the casting of, Ariana Ayam who stars opposite Adhyayan Suman in Shekhar Suman’s directorial venture ‘Heartless’. While hundreds of girls were auditioned for this role that requires a strong female protagonist, the one to bag it was a graphic designer from New York, who did not even know that the film’s casting was underway.

Shekhar Suman says that for the role they were looking for a fresh face who would still be able to hold her own against stalwarts like Deepti Naval and Om Puri, in a role that required as much performance as glamour.

A rather tall order for any actress, leave alone a newcomer. Though they had a few girls shortlisted who were competent enough, that feeling of having found ‘the’ girl was missing. In fact at one time the film’s director was even told that this so called feeling of having gotten the perfect match is a myth and he should just go ahead and start the film as such perfect castings only happen in ‘films’.

Or in real life, Shekhar insisted, holding on to this feeling that the perfect girl was out there somewhere, he just hadn’t found her yet.

Shekhar’s faith in his ‘yet to be discovered’ heroine, paid off when he happened to see a short film that Ariana had acted in purely as a lark. This short film was made by Adhyayan and his friend for a college project and since the independent minded youngsters were shooting the film on a low budget everything from the cast to the crew were their friends. Ariana had done the film because her friends asked her to and that’s where it ended for her.

Except of course that was actually the beginning. The minute Shekhar saw the film he knew he had finally found his female lead.

Of course convincing her was another thing. From doing a short film for fun to making a whole new career choice was kind of a life changing deal for this young designer.

But once she had read the script and Adhyayan and Shekhar had explained her role to her she was excited and challenged enough by it to take a deep breath and say ‘ok lets do this’.

(a quote here from Ariana about the impact the story and her character had on her).

Having given it her go ahead, Ariana also made sure she gave it her all and not for a second has Shekhar regretted his decision of casting on instinct rather than the tried and tested route of multiple auditions.

She is a natural, reveals a source from the unit, looking at her performance its’ hard to believe that she was not born to act.

But then again, maybe she was and she was just waiting to be discovered.

The ticket prices of Dhoom 3 are at par with other big banner films (like Chennai Express or Krissh 3). In single screens and multiplexes, the ticket prices of Dhoom 3 are in the usual price bracket of Rs. 50 – Rs. 380 depending on the show timing and theatre.

The makers of the film are infact very surprised with the strong rumors of the hike in the ticket prices floating around.

The rumors quote the ticket prices to be exorbitant which has created a misunderstanding among the audiences at large.

Fact of the matter being, Dhoom 3 is the first Bollywood film to release in IMAX theatres. IMAX as a format is expensive and hence the ticket prices in these theatres would be in the price range of Rs 350 to Rs 900.

However there are only 4 IMAX theatres across India. Even the Hollywood films in IMAX like Gravity, which released a couple of months back was sold at the same price range and hence there is no real difference in the price factor.

Aamir Khan says, “Dhoom 3 ticket prices are not expensive. They are priced just like the other films that have released and in general ticket prices also differ as per the show timings. It is also the first Hindi film to release in the IMAX format and there are a total of 4 such screens in India, two of which are in Bombay. Apart from those four screens, the tickets of Dhoom 3 are in the usual price range.”

Journalists were curious to know why it was portrayed like the tickets were very expensive when there is no truth in it and so they asked Aamir if he sees some mischief around this..

To this Aamir said, “I’m also surprised where this has come from. We have clarified it before but it keeps coming up. The source of this mischief is unknown to me.”

Given that Kangana plays a small town girl in the film , there was a reel life-real life connect which inspired the actress to contribute towards the dialogues.

Confirming the news says director Vikas Bahl, “I like it when characters find their own language in the film. That’s why, as Kangana got more into the character, I wanted her to have lines that came naturally to her”.

Says Kangana, “I have to talk like a real person and I have to be candid because I play the part of a shy, sheltered and submissive girl, who is very protected by her family”.

2014 Outlook from McAfee on Indian Security Industry Trends

- Jagdish Mahapatra, Managing Director, McAfee India and SAARC

India, 19 December 2013 – Following are the mega trends that will dominate 2014’s security industry in India -

· Enterprise Mobility and BYOD: Organisations expect one single solution to address the overall BYOD challenge which is not practically feasible. BYOD needs to be looked at from different dimensions like Data Loss Prevention, Network access Control, Authentication system, internal intrusion prevention systems, internal firewalls, securing Wi-Fi etc. This demands that companies relook at the security architecture and rebuild it to fit BYOD needs.

· Real-Time visibility of threat trends: The volume of threats and the nature of hidden, stealthy malware that is designed to evade traditional protection counter measures will require every organization to have instant visibility across devices. Of critical importance will be the ability to query for data and make decisions on how to protect the network, and then make relevant changes in real time.

· Advanced Threat Defence in Security: To combat the problem of advanced malware, many organizations are relying on their legacy security products or using stand-alone malware products that are not integrated with the rest of the environment. Hence there is a need to adopt advanced threat defence solutions to respond to attacks faster and seamlessly move from analysis to protection and resolution.

· Data centre transformation- Data centres are the nerve centre of an organization making data centre security a top priority for most companies today. With the blurring of boundaries between physical, virtual and public/private clouds, organizations are on an evolutionary curve towards next-generation data centres. Resultantly they will face the reality of securing data that moves between server, storage, and networking resources (physical and virtual) of next-generation data centres.

· Internet of Things and embedded devices – The Internet of Things is permeating the marketplace, bringing physical objects together through remote accessibility across the Internet without the need for human intervention, using the same wireless networks and Internet Protocol (IP) that connects your computer to the Internet. According to Ericsson, there will be 50 billion IP-connected devices by 2020, up from 1 billion just a year ago. This phenomenon has exploded the threat scope for these devices with ATMs, point-of-sale (POS) terminals, kiosks, medical equipment, SCADA systems and other embedded devices being hacked in ever-increasing numbers. To work as intended, most of these devices include embedded sensors that make it very easy to track the movements of those devices and monitor interactions with them. In other words, embedded intelligent devices are now just as likely as PCs, servers or smartphones to be dragged into botnets or hijacked by cyber-attackers.

· Need for security connected- In the wake of a sophisticated threat landscape and newly emerged business models, security cannot be seen as an instrument to stop bad things from occurring but instead as an enabler for more efficient, effective, and agile business. This realisation is steadily coming into effect with the paradigm of security moving from mere device safety to protection of assets with increased awareness of risk management and the reputational cost. In the ensuing year, there will be greater consciousness for security to be approached from a combination of endpoint, network, and data-centric controls for discovery, prevention, detection, response, and audit rather than each of these elements in a siloed manner. This interlocked approach, ensures better intelligence exchange arming companies with situational awareness and real time for quick and strategic action.

· Mainstreaming of security amongst SMBs – Indian SMBs largely represent knowledge based businesses such as chartered accountants, law firms etc. They are likely to have money moving around through (wire transfers, vendor payments, and customer payments) and their knowledge intensive nature, makes them potentially vulnerable to cyber threats. Many smaller businesses often lack budget and expertise, and typically have liberal, rarely enforced policies for use of personal devices, in-office Wi-Fi access, installation of unauthorized apps, thereby exposing itself to huge threats. Next year, we will see SMBs get more mainstream in their adoption of comprehensive security.

The makers of Dhoom 3 are going to release a special cut promo.

To maintain a sense of mystery and curiosity around the film, the makers have essentially refrained from sharing a lot of content with the audiences.

The team has been asked to cut and package a special trailer which encapsulates more exciting visuals from the film.

There are some high energy stunts and action sequences which will narrate the flavour of the film.

The idea is to push the envelop and create a kind of excitement.

Power Comes in the Salty Water!

Kavita Raha, founder of Pink Platform conducted a panel discussion on ‘Domestic abuse & battered women’ pompously on board of Voyager – Seven Seas with the woman achievers!

Pink Platform hosted a panel discussion on “Domestic abuse & battered women: Responsibility & obligations of the privileged class” on board of Voyager- Seven seas in the open Arabian Sea.

A human rights specialist, doctors and a lawyer were in conversation with Kavita Raha, Founder & CEO; Pink Platform highlighting some of the human rights issues faced by women in our country along with pondering over our responsibilities towards women who are less fortunate than us.

The crème de la crème crowd comprising of elite class of women coming from different backgrounds were Bhagyashree, Archana Kochhar, Amy Billimoria, Dr. Sunita Banerjee, Bina Aziz, Nazneen, Priya Thakur & others

Couturier Amy Billimoria, from her exclusive collection, put up a Saree for auction. A contemporary Saree influenced by the various aspects of a modern woman.

Pink Platform, an online community…the website designed to gather women from different walks of life onto a single forum where they can express themselves freely, discuss issues that matter and share their experiences, in turn helping enrich the lives of other women.

Explaining the mantra of Pink Platform, founder Kavita Raha mentions, “Our mantra is ‘Let start small, but start’… We are forming a ‘circle of trust’, so for those who are interested in contributing and starting small giving projects can register at the Pink Platform online portal. The Pink Platform network covers a vast array of topics that would be relevant for women all over the world, in different age groups, and includes subjects such as parenting, healthcare, and domestic issues to beauty, entertainment, personal finance, food and travel, to name just a few.”

The panel discussion revolved around topics of sexual & domestic abuse where everybody openly discussed the sensitive issues.

Sexual abuse still remains largely hidden. The recent outrage over the allegations of abuse of a Tehelka staffer by the editor has led to fresh discussions about sexual harassment in the work place. Quite often, women choose to shrug it off fearing problems at work, because they lack the support that they will need to pursue criminal charges considering that the perpetrator is often in a position of power, and above all because they want to avoid further harassment due to a long drawn police investigation and trial process. This is true in most cases of abuse, and crimes are rarely reported unless the injuries are so critical that they person needs medical care, in which case doctors are obliged to inform the police.

Domestic violence too remains largely hidden. While it can occur across classes, the victim often feels economically dependent on the perpetrator, unwilling to risk the hardship she and the children might encounter if they complain. Of course, there are the more complicated areas of marital rape.

Talking about how Pink Platform came into being, Kavita Raha explains, “Women are constantly balancing their time and priorities between home, children, spouse/ partner, and the workplace with each demanding their share of importance and attention. To add to it all, this constant act of juggling responsibilities is seen as being merely supportive in nature and often doesn’t receive adequate recognition. Between all of this, they get very little time or opportunity to cater to their own needs or discuss their problems and issues. And this is where pink Platform steps in.”
