Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ethereal heroines – Deepika Padukone like never before in Ram-Leela
Over the years ,audiences looking back will remember a few heroines who took their breath-away , everything from the way they looked to the way they went about their mundane chores on-screen to the way they danced – their smiles lighting up the screen.
Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali ,known for his larger-than-life films , exemplary sets , high-tempo emotions and most of all for the way he presents his film’s leading ladies promises audiences this time around , Deepika Padukone aka Leela , in her most beautiful yet.
Be it Manisha Koirala in Khamoshi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Guzaarish ,Madhuri Dixit Nene and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Devdas or Sonam Kapoor in Saawariya – one of Bollywood’s most sought after directors ,Sanjay Leela Bhansali has always presented his heroines as visual poems , unfailingly resplendent inspiring women with uncompromising individuality , remembered much after the film releases.
When it came to Deepika Padukone’s look in Ram-Leela , keeping with his vision of Leela , Bhansali wanted to keep it as natural and real as possible with minimalist make-up by Mehera Kolah and an undone light bouffant ,giving her the look of a local Gujarati girl.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali known to go all out on minute detailing ,aimed at extracting the best of Gujurat in Deepika’s costumes and personally traveled to the interiors of Gujarat on the outskirts of Bhuj to purchase the material that went into Deepika’s clothing designed by Anju Modi.If that wasn’t all,the materials used as part of her wardrobe for the film date to over a 100 years old in spite of it being a contemporary film based in real time, since the maverick director needed it to be as traditional and real as possible.
Talking about his film’s Leela says Sanjay Leela Bhansali, ” Leela is like my mother – beautiful, graceful but teekhi ! She is color …She is fire…I wanted Deepika to be that”.
Says designer Anju Modi , “It’s a different experience altogether working with Bhansali .He does not believe in restricting creativity and that makes it a dream for any designer-.What made things even better was that Bhansali and I were on the same page aesthetically and that gave rise to beautiful costumes”.
Says Deepika “Sanjay sir is known for the way he presents his heroines .Other than getting to working with one of the country’s most celebrated directors, I was really excited about my look in the film. Leela came alive thanks to Sanjay Bhansali’s vision and attention to detail combined with Anju Modi’s creative brilliance”.
Eros International & Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Ram-Leela starring Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh is scheduled to release November 15th 2013.

*Leopard drops in on the sets of R…Rajkumar*
While shooting at the lake near Film City, panic hit the sets of Eros
International and NextGen Film’s R…Rajkumar as a leopard climbed into the
area where a crucial scene of the film was being shot.
Quick thinking on the part of the action entertainer’s crew and the guards
at FilmCity, dummy guns and empty bottle sounds were used to scare away the
wild animal –
Says producer Viki Rajani , “ While we were shooting near the Film City
lake at 1.30 am we saw a leopard climbing up a lamp post. There was a lot
of panic amongst the 300-400 odd people who were present on the set.But we
fired dummy guns that were used by the actors playing henchmen to make
enough noise to scare away the creature . We had sufficient security so it
was not an issue and we continued shooting till five in the morning”
Eros International and NextGen Films’ R…Rajkumar starring Shahid Kapoor and
Sonakshi Sinha, directed by Prabhu Dheva is scheduled to release 6th December

Mumbai, October 8, 2013: As the city’s most eagerly awaited cultural event, the 15th Mumbai Film Festival, organized by the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image draws closer, it has been revealed that this edition of the festival will conclude with the screening of ‘The Fifth Estate” as its Closing Film, a dramatic thriller directed by Bill Condon.
