Anoushka Shankar relives her father’s rich legacy at the Taj

~Ravi Shankar Suite graced by legend’s heir~

Mumbai, December 8th, 2013: For more than a century, the Taj has played an intrinsic part in the life of the city, hosting royalty, rock stars and eminent personalities from across the globe. On her recent visit to Mumbai, Indian sitar player and composer, Anoushka Shankar resided in the acclaimed ‘Ravi Shankar’ suite which is dedicated to her late father, Pandit Ravi Shankar.

The suite occupies a prime location at the centre of the Taj’s sea-facing elevation, an exalted location being part of its very inception. Adorned with original artifacts and memorabilia from the Ravi Shankar foundation and artworks of painters like Jamini Roy, Raja Ravi Verma and Raza, every facet pays homage to the legendary composer. A whimsically luxuriant atmosphere pervades every space making it a retreat extraordinaire. There is a sense of musical harmony in the way every element of the suite comes together as one iconoclastic and eccentrically hospitable paradise. There is even a gallery with a collection of concert recordings of Pandit Ravi Shankar and George Harrison. In fact, from the colours of the sitar that are used as the main colour theme throughout, to memorabilia and sitars that the genius once played, this suite is an inspiration, much like the man himself.

In 1966, George Harrison checked into The Taj Mahal Palace under an assumed name and studied sitar under Pandit Ravi Shankar. And it was to commemorate this legendary occasion that the Ravi Shankar Suite was created.

Anoushka will arrive on the 7th and leaves on 9th.December. She will return with her family on 11th till 13th December

Ratnakar Bank embraces Citrix XenDesktop® solution to align IT infrastructure with business growth

India – December 9, 2013: Ratnakar Bank, an emerging private sector scheduled commercial bank with 70 years of heritage, announced a large scale implementation of Citrix desktop virtualization solution, resulting in streamlined manageability of IT infrastructure with greater efficiency, enhanced security and better end-user mobility.

Being a technology forward organization, the Bank has always stayed ahead on the technology curve to achieve high standards in service, quality and operations. With a focus on improving its customer interface, the bank raised its capital base to around USD 250 million from USD 50 million in the last two years to upgrade people, systems and processes. To keep pace with the changing business requirements, the bank charted a three pronged agenda of embracing BYOD, reduce cost of application delivery and increase end-user experience without increasing the cost of IT.

In its pursuit of achieving these objectives, Ratnakar Bank recognised the potential of transitioning to a cloud-based application delivery architecture which would enable managing 150+ branches from a central location. In effect, the Bank replaced its traditional desktops with Citrix XenDesktop – an impactful desktop virtualization solution, thereby enabling central management and supporting seamless transition to a new core banking platform. The implementation of Citrix solution was facilitated by Anunta technology Management Services Ltd., a company specializing in Application Delivery as a Service (ADaaS).

Commenting on the implementation, Anup Purohit, Head-IT, Ratnakar Bank said, “The adoption of Citrix XenDesktop solution is a milestone in our technology transformation journey. The IT centralization process aided by desktop virtualization has significantly improved process efficiencies and service effectiveness, while boosting our strategic and operational imperatives as a Bank.”

Sanjay Deshmukh, Area Vice President, Citrix India said “Our association with Ratnakar Bank testifies the increasing trend of banks embracing technologies such as desktop virtualisation to reinvent end user computing. Through this partnership, we are pleased to support the bank’s transformational initiative towards achieving greater productivity, efficiencies and delivering a high quality banking experience to its stakeholders.”

As part of the desktop virtualization roll-out, over 1250+ users from 150+ branches across India, National Operations Center and Regional Processing Center in Mumbai transitioned from a physical infrastructure to a cloud-based one. To ensure optimized end user experience, the implementation of the Citrix solution went through custom designing of application delivery architecture using private cloud based solutions on extensive user-profiling. By leveraging Citrix’s Flexcast technology which allows different types of desktops delivery according to the role of the user, Ratnakar Bank assigned desktops as per the needs of the user. The implementation process took just six weeks to complete which was accompanied by a change management initiative to ensure a seamless switch. During the course of the deployment, a new core banking platform was also rolled out seamlessly across all 130 branches, with zero business interruption.

Post the deployment of the solution, there has been a significant improvement in the time taken for opening a new branch which now gets completed in two days instead of two weeks. The deployment has also resulted in lowering the cost of application delivery/user/month by more than 25 percent. A centrally-hosted, remotely monitored model with enhanced security allowed the Bank to increase IT effectiveness and return on investment (ROI). Ratnakar Bank has also been able to benefit from reduction in power consumption by over 65 percent and cooling requirements by as much as 50 percent.

From Yaariyan to the Youth !

Divya Khosla Kumar makes her directorial debut with Yaariyan,a contemporary young film that takes audiences through the trials and tribulations of the best years of their life.Much like their characters in the film, this young ensemble starcast talk about their tips surrounding hostel life, love, ambition and above all friendship -

The Casanova Himansh Kohli (Lakhsya)- “Much like my character in the film,I too studied in a hostel and one big tip I would always give out is to have a big group so that no one dares mess with you. Also, in my days, sneaking in a girls’ hostel was like a matter of pride and any guy who did it used to be looked at with respect”.

The Biker Devanshu Sharma (Neil)- The most important tip for hostel students is to make friends with the ‘mama’s boys’ and always protect them from bullies. Reason being they always get the best food from their mothers and if they look upto you, you get to share the food! Also, make friends with the watchman and always tip him some money even if you don’t have money to spend on yourself because he is the one guy, who will always help you sneak out or sneak in.”

The Hottie Nicole Faria (Jia)- I was the kind of girl, who would file her nails in class and make others do my homework just by smiling sweetly at them. Another tip would be to always have a pal on the outside to sneak stuff into the hostel for you”.

The Responsible Rakul Preet (Saloni)- You need to concentrate on your studies because at a hostel, you won’t have your parents around you to push you to make an extra effort. Also, never bunk classes and don’t hang out with the trouble-makers (sneaks a look at Himash and Devanshu).

The Yaaron Ka Yaar Shreyas Pardiwala (Pardi): You hostel group is like your family because you spend almost all your time with them to the extent that at times, your actual family seems secondary and my tip would be to always share with your hostel-mates, whether it be food or your clothes or any other goodies that you get from your home because that’s what friends are for.

T-Series’ Yaariyan directed by Divya Khosla Kumar is scheduled to release 10th January 2013.

John Abraham on a roll !

While his last hit Madras Café, reiterated that John Abraham is one of the industry’s most bankable stars , the actor-producer is on a roll with his projects next year , a mixed bag of commercial and contemporary cinema , something he has always managed to maintain a perfect balance between.

Talking about Welcome Back and Dostana 2, John says, “Anees Bazmi’s Welcome Back has gone on the floors. So it’s an exciting time. For Dostana 2 whatever I’ve heard of the script is beyond hilarious. And I’m always excited about working with Abhishek Bachchan. I love him.”

Despite having a choc-o-bloc schedule as far as his on-screen projects are concerned, John is also quite excited about his role as a producer and talks about his future plans for JA Entertainment, “After working with Nishikanth Kamat in ‘Force’, I am doing another home production with him. It would be in the same action space, though the action would be way beyond what we did in Force.”

John Abraham has also bought the remake rights of a Telugu film titled ‘Prabhas’, which will be remade in Hindi as ‘Mirchi’. “It’s an amazing script. I am also producing a film based on a script called J-39. We are trying to zero in on a director for this one,” he says.

Ask the actor-producer about how the industry raves about the new “John-re” he has introduced and he is quick to reply,“It’s a good feeling. People tell me I am trying to make a change in cinema. I was in a flight from Mumbai to Delhi. And I could see the way other passengers had positioned me in their heads. At the same time, there are people congratulating me for my personality.”
