INDIA’S FIRST MINIMAL ACCESS TRANSPLANT FOR LUNG PERFORMED SUCCESSFULLY AT GLOBAL HEALTH CITY

· Minimal Access Transplant procedure provides immense patient benefits

December 02, 2013: The Lung Transplant Surgeons at Global Health City, Chennai, part of Global Hospitals Group, performed successfully India’s First successful Minimal Access Transplant for Lung on a 61 year recipient. On 24th November 2013, Mr. Raja Babu Shah underwent the minimal access transplant procedure, bringing smiles on the face of his wife and their three kids. Mr. Raja Babu Shah, was diagnosed to have Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis several years ago. It is a progressive interstitial lung disease and shows poor response to maximal medical management. So he was on the waiting list for Lung Transplantation under the Cadaver Transplantation Program of Tamil Nadu since July 2013. He has been confined to bed and wheelchair for more than a year now.

On November 24, a suitable donor became available at Christian Medical College (CMC) Vellore. So Mr. Raja was offered a Lung Transplantation, which would give him a near normal life without oxygen. This was a Minimally Invasive Lung Transplantation. The surgical team was headed by Dr. Jnanesh Thacker – Senior Consultant Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon, Specialist in Heart and Lung Transplantation for Global Hospitals Group, and his team consisting of Dr. Nandkishore Kapadia, Dr. Vijil Rahulan, Dr. Govini Balasubramani, Dr. Manohar, Dr. Kalyan, Dr. Rajgopal & Dr. Sanjay Singh. We got together as a team to discuss what we need to ensure for best clinical outcomes and after that the decision was made to take the road less travelled – Minimal access mode. We did a Minimal access anterio-axillary thoracotomy with an incision, 7 inches long, just below the nipple. We ensured that the internal mammary artery is preserved.”

Dr. Nandkishore Kapadia, Senior Consultant, Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon, Global Health City added saying “This was like a time bound mission shown in the movies, with the cadaver lung retrieval done at CMC Vellore, transported to Global Health City, Chennai, within a time span of 105 minutes, followed immediately by a four- hour recipient surgery.”

Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Ravindranath – Chairman & Managing Director, Global Hospitals Group applauded the Transplantation Team’s effort in saving the life of this patient with a novel attempt helping faster recovery. He also stated “I was pleased to know that the patient was off the ventilator on the next day and he walked inside his room on the third post operative day.”

Referring to the two patients who had received successful Lung Transplantation the previous year, Dr. Ravindranath said ‘I am also extremely happy to meet Ms. Hanan Hasan & Ms. Fatima, both from Bahrain. As a foremost Transplant center & the largest lung transplant program in the country, we are pleased to have successfully completed our 10th lung transplant at Global Health City, Chennai with this Minimal access thoracotomy incision.”

Kangana Ranaut, Bollywood’s poster girl for fashion, recently proved her love for all things beautiful when she got herself an expensive gown worth a whopping Rs. 5 lakhs all the way from the European fashion capital Paris to wear at an event in Mumbai.

A source close to the actress says, “She wanted to wear a gown, one of those delicate ones, and was particularly keen on this one, which had to be worn with a lot of care. So much so, that the designer label had sent her instructions on how to drape the satin creation. The gown is apparently worth Rs. 5 lakh and was specially made for her,given her close association with the brand.”

Confirming the news Kangana says, “I was hesitant to wear the gown as it was just a drape, which had to be held with the body postures and had no other support in the back or front. The brand sent it to me from Paris and I liked it a lot.”

The actor was very nervous about hosting it, as this marks his debut as a host. Gulshan had spent a day rehearsing the lines as this is the first time he is doing a live event in front of such a big audience. Sources present at the event reveal that Gulshan had done a fabulous job hosting the show. Gulshan Devaiah, looking dapper in cream coloured suit, was the highlight of the night. At a robust 43%, HMSI grows double the 2W industry average growth in Nov’13

Mumbai, December 02, 2013: Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt Ltd (HMSI), the 2nd largest 2Wheeler company in India, once again led the industry growth with its positive sales backed by positive customer demand.

Festive mood continued in November, 2013 as HMSI clocked 319,080 units’ sales thereby registering impressive 43% growth over 223,145 units sold in November, 2012.

This growth came from both motorcycle and automatic scooter segments. In Nov’13, HMSI Motorcycle sales grew 39% to 150,995 units while automatic scooter sales grew 46% to 168,085 units. Exceedingly positive customer response for Honda’s quality two-wheelers contributed to the impressive sales.

Mr. Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Vice President – Sales & Marketing, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt Ltd. said, “With a phenomenal 43% YoY growth in Nov’13, Honda has grown at double the average industry growth of 22%. Setting new records, HMSI sold 80,000 units alone on Dhanteras which emphasizes customers preference for Honda 2Wheelers during the festive season. We are working relentlessly to serve our valued customers faster and reduce the heavy backlog of 1 lac scooters.
