ROSE VENKATESH IS INDIA’S FIRST TRANSGENDER TO DIRECT A FILM

The Hinglish film CRICKET SCANDAL produced by A. Senthil Kumar and based on betting and match -fixing in cricket world revolves around two parallel stories revolving around the relationship between a cricketer and a transsexual girl and another between two homosexuals. What is unique about the film is that for the first time in India, the film has been directed by a real transgender Rose Venkatesan, who has also acted in the romantic lead besides writing the script . Kishan Ram Chandram played her boyfriend, who is a cricketer involved in the match fixing scandals.The film also stars Agu Ajmal, Deepan, K. Murugan, Venkatesh, Kesavan, Saravanan, Surya Prakash, Parthiban and Venkat. It has music by Deepan, who is an erstwhile assistant to music director A.R. Rahman. “I set out to drive home the message that transgender persons also have their own right to live in society. My aim is to try to change social views and make society more livable for all types of people. I plan to sue the media to spell out change in social perspectives,” says Rose Venkatesan.

Poonam Pandey made it a point to attend Sachin Tendulkar’s final match between India and West Indies held at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

The five-day match marks the ace cricketer’s retirement and being his and a cricket fan Poonam chose to be a part of the gaming spirit. The actress had even inked Sachin’s face on her right arm enjoying the match to the hilt.

Bhoot Aaya to narrate Bangalore incident – Nisha

Sony Entertainment Television’s newly launched horror series ‘Bhoot Aaya’ will narrate the Bangalore based incident this weekend. It is a story of a model from Bangalore named Nisha. It was good morning and everything was fine. Her husband, Raj, had gone to visit Tirupati with a friend Naveen. That day her life changed suddenly. A phone call informed the family that Raj had met with an accident. The family got ready to move to the spot. However, Nisha got a call from Naveen. “Raj is saying you should not come here as Bubbly (daughter) is small and would be scared. We both are okay,” Naveen said. However, he refused to let her talk to Raj saying that he was getting medical aid. Nisha rushed down to tell her weeping family that she got such a call and both of them were fine.

But to her surprise she was told that the both Raj and Naveen died on spot. She could not believe it as she just had a talk with that person. However, in the great shock she was unable to understand what had really happened. She felt it was the end of her world. However, the coming days had something more horrible. Nisha felt that there was somebody near her, watching her. Initially, she thought that it was her deceased husband but the feel was too negative. Every time she felt so she went to her father. The only source of strength and courage left with her. The house she lived in had turned gloomy. It was not the death of her husband but something more. And suddenly the family met another accident. Her father fell down from the roof. He wanted to communicate something with Nisha, but was unable to. Life came back on track. However, Nisha always felt that there was someone watching her. But one day it started. She went on her bed to take a nap. A moment later she felt that there was somebody on her. She was unable to move. She could not speak. But could feel there was somebody who had taken full control over her body. She could not understand what was going on.

COMPETITION APPELLATE TRIBUNAL DISMISSES CASE

Friday, 15 November 2013: It is befitting that The Competition Tribunal dismissed the appeal filed by ADF against the order of the Competition Commission exactly a year since Jab Tak Hai Jaan released on 13th November 2012.

After the COMPETITION COMMISSION had dismissed the complaint filed by AJAY DEVGN FILMS (ADF) on the basis that they were of the opinion that there was no contravention of the Act in this case, the COMPETITION APPELLATE TRIBUNAL, in a order of 8th November 2012, also refused to pass any interim order against YASH RAJ FILMS (YRF) on the ground that the complainant had not put forward sufficient facts to establish that YRF had violated the Competition Act.

A completely misleading press release was put out by ADF alleging that an enquiry had been set up to look into ‘the anti-competitive activities of YRF’ since the Competition Appellate Tribunal had not found any merit in the contention of ADF because the Tribunal was of the view that ADF had totally failed to establish that the agreements entered into by YRF with the single screens cinemas would cause any appreciable adverse effect on competition. It was also noted by the Tribunal that YRF had announced the release of its film on 27th June 2011 with its announcement of the release of its film for Diwali 2012 and commenced booking of single screen theatres in June, July & Aug 2012. On the contra, ADF announced the release of its film only on 29th May 2012 and approached the single screen owners only in October 2012 by which time YRF had taken a lead. It was expressly noted that the number of screens contracted for JAB TAK HAI JAAN, being far less than that of EK THA TIGER, prima facie no case of adverse effect on competition, much less appreciable effect on competition, was made out.

Despite several media queries at that time, YRF had maintained a strict media silence while the matter was pending before the competent judicial authorities, deeming it inappropriate to comment on the matter while it was before the judicial authorities. YRF has never desired nor manipulated such unethical publicity as a film promotional device for itself.

It is unfortunate that our refusal to comment had led to aspersions being cast on YRF’s business practises, which have always been ethical and of the highest standards.

On 13th November 2013, after considering and dismissing individually all the points raised by the Appellant, AJAY DEVGN FILMS (ADF), the Honourable Chairman, Justice V. S. Sirpurkar and the other Honourable Members of the Coram, Shri Rahul Sarin & Mrs. Pravin Tripathi, concluded that “there is no merit in this appeal and this appeal must be dismissed”.

Let’s put to rest once and for all that YRF has, and will always, adopt the best business practices… and will continue to do so, jab tak hai jaan!

Akshay Kumar invites international audiences to watch ‘Bhaji in Problem’

Grazing Goat Pictures had a few lucky viewers in splits at special screenings of their first ever Punjabi Comedy film ‘Bhaji in Problem’ which releases worldwide today.

The production banner spearheaded by Akshay Kumar and Ashvini Yardi organized a special screening in Mumbai and the film’s premiere in Chandigarh consecutively on Wednesday and Thursday this week and all the attendees were full of praises for the film.

Akshay Kumar’s dear friend and leading Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh attended the screening in Mumbai and the Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal along with legendary actor Dharamendra graced the screening in Chandigarh. Akshay and Ashvini made an appearance at both the venues in support of the film and cheered on the cast and crew of his film. Leading lady, Ragini Khanna who makes her Punjabi Cinema debut, accompanied Akshay and Ashvini to the Mumbai screening of the film whereas whilst the other cast and crew members, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Gippy Grewal and director Smeep Kang were seen at the Chandigarh screening. According to an onlooker in Mumbai, Yuvraj found the film so funny that he fell off his chair laughing while watching the film.

The Chandigarh premiere was met with a flurry of excited audiences and fanfare to welcome in the stars of Bhaji in Problem, a film which is set to be a game changer for Punjabi cinema globally.

In speaking about the release, Ashvini Yardi said: “We are very excited about the release of our first Punjabi Film Bhaji in Problem. Bhaji in Problem’ stars some of Punjab’s most reputed stars Gippy Grewal and Gurpreet Ghuggi who are joined by Sasural Ghenda Phool’s Suhana Raghini Khanna, and veteran actor Om Puri as central characters. The film is directed by Smeep Kang who has delivered successful hits such as Carry on Jatta and Lucky Di Unlucky Story. The film also sees cricketer Harbajan Singh make a friendly appearance in the film. Akshay Kumar who is producing the film with Ashvini Yardi under their production banner Grazing Goat Pictures, will also be seen featuring in an extended role in the film.

‘Bhaji in Problem’ is their second regional film production after the poignant Marathi film ’72 Miles Ek Pravas’ and third feature film after the box office hit OMG: Oh My God, which grossed over 100 Crores at the international and Indian box office, and gained rave reviews from audiences and critics alike.

Punit who considers himself good- looking, silently dominating and hyper had started going to the gym to become an actor but today gym has become a part of his life. He would not refuse a role as an actor if a good one came his way in the future.

He comes from a filmi background considering Ram dayal sabarwal the producer who launched rekha is his nana, Suneel and Dharmesh darshan are his nana’s first cousins while Lali and David dhawan are his dads first cousins and his biggest influence has been his chachu Manish malhotra.

Manish asked him to assist Karan johar in kabhi kushi kabhi gham while he was 19 and had nothing to do after his college which continued as he also assisted on Kal ho na ho and Kabhi alvida na kehna. After his third film Karan who had already seen a director in him asked him if he wanted to direct. Karan agreed to invest his money if he had a good script and when punit approached him, he immediately agreed and I hate luv storys happened.

Talking about Manish malhotra, he is very protective about punit. He would want him to party and enjoy but not on the cost of his work suffering.

Punit finds himself very similar to Imran khan due to which they share a very good rapport. He finds Avantika to be a perfect match for Imran as what Imran lacks she makes up for him. He feels if he were a girl he would be safest with Imran.

Punit is very romantic at heart and is very attached to his mom. He hates god and hates the fact that people believe in god. He believes its better to help others rather than wasting time in praying.

Dhoom 3 created a huge buzz among the audiences post the launch of the trailer in the IMAX format, which is an added bonus.

The impact of the trailer has been so huge, that the news doing the rounds is that multiplexes have started pre booking tickets for the Aamir Khan starrer.

It is for the first time in the history of Indian cinema that multiplex chains started accepting pre bookings immediately after the launch of the trailer i.e. almost 2 months before the release of the film.

Usually, multiplexes start pre bookings one week prior to the release of the film.

The film is slated to release on December 20th and it is the most awaited film.

Another “first-time” news that was attached to Dhoom 3 before this, is that the film will be releasing in the IMAX format. Usually Hollywood films like Spiderman and Batman are released in this format.

What’s very interesting is that the multiplex was under pressure from the audiences. The demand was already so high that they had to start pre bookings.

When contacted the spokesperson of the film, they confirmed the news. “Yes, the impact of the trailer was big and there was a huge demand from the audiences, due to which pre-bookings began”.

Crime Patrol to show a Maharashtra based series

The most popular crime series on Sony Entertainment Television Crime Patrol is all set to showcase a Maharashtra episode. The episode says tells the story of Poornima, a 14 year old girl, kept inside Rangoli Natya Gruh against her wishes. She is forced to attend to the physical desires of customers.

Rangoli Natya Gruh from the outside looks to be a center for performing arts but in reality is a prostitution center where minors are held. Fauzia Parveen, a social worker who is striving to provide a better environment for underprivileged children to facilitate their education hears about Poornima being trapped inside Rangoli Nayta Gruh, and takes it upon herself to rescue her from the clutches of the prostitution den.

Will Poornima be rescued?
