Amongst the cast, veteran actor Kabir Bedi will be seen making a comeback to acting after a long hiatus. Kabir has an important role to play in this epic drama. “I am playing a sage who foresees the coming of the Buddha.” says Kabir. Very few people know that the actor has a karmic connection with Buddhism. His mother has spent 15 years as a Buddhist nun in Tibet. Kabir himself has lived a life of a monk for a year in Burma. He feels a deep connection with the role and gave an instant nod when approached for it.

The handsome Samir Dharmadhikari, most remembered for his portrayal of King Gagadhar Rao, the husband of ‘Jhansi Ki Rani’, will play the righteous King Suddhodana, father of Prince Siddhartha. Nigaar Khan will dazzle as always in the negative role of Mangala, the vicious and cunning aunt of Prince Siddhartha. Actors Deepika Upadhyay, Gungun Uprari and Siddhartha Vasudev will play the roles of Queen Mahamaya, Queen Prajapati and Dronadhan respectively.

It is interesting to note that ‘Buddha’ was initially supposed to be made into a film. Spice Studios had begun work on a film based on the same subject with filmmakers Shekhar Kapur and Ashutosh Gowariker helming the research and script development. However, Dr. Modi explains his choice of medium saying, “The scope of television today is larger than films and we wanted Buddha’s story to unfold in all its splendour and reach out to the largest denominator of people possible. Only TV can give us that reach … especially ZEE, with its international reach spanning over 169 countries!”

Satish Kaushik pens lyrics for Gang of Ghosts song

Director Satish Kaushik who had written the dialogues for comic cult Janne Bhi Do Yaaro which released in 1983,now pens not just the dialogues of his upcoming comedy Gang of Ghosts, but has also written the lyrics of a song from the Bengali film Bhooter Bhabishyat which will feature in the comedy.

Having bought the rights of a Bengali song from Bhooter Bhabishyat ,the director has adapted the song into Hindi with his own inputs.

Confirming the news says Satish Kaushik, “I have adapted the title song into Hindi. It is a funny song with a retro feel. It has been composed by new music directors Dharam and Sandeep.”

Mumbai 3rd September, 2013: As the buzz builds up to the 15th edition of the Mumbai Film Festival, the just-announced list of jury members has raised expectations even further. Featuring a heady mix of some of the finest film makers, actors and connoisseurs, the fest is set to be bigger come October.

Heading the International Competition jury as the president will be director Bruce Beresford, whose 1989 film Driving Miss Daisy won the Academy Award for the Best Film. He was also nominated for Best Director in 1984 for Tender Mercies. This jury also boasts of more world class talents in the French actress Nathalie Baye, multi-faceted artist who has worked with the likes of Godard and Truffaut. There is Masato Harada too, renowned Japanese actor – director of The Last Samurai fame and our own Konkana Sen Sharma, who’s given us memorable films such as Mr and Mrs Iyer and Omkara.

The India Gold 2013 Competition section jury is equally eminent, with the Academy Award winning Iranian director Asghar Farhadi heading the Jury panel as President. By his side will be the man behind the acclaimed film Osama (2004) which won him an Academy award nomination, Siddiq Barmark. More names on this list include acclaimed British actor/director Waris Hussein of Doctor Who and Passage to India fame, Jill Bilcock

(Australian Film Editor and Academy Award nominee for Moulin Rouge) and Roger Garcia, the executive director of the prestigious Hong Kong International Film Festival, film critic and an authority on Asian Cinema.

The 15th Mumbai Film Festival will take place from the 17th – 24, October 2013.

The 15th edition of the Mumbai Film Festival will be held at Metro Cinema and Liberty Cinemas as the main festival venues and Cinemax, Andheri (West) as the satellite venue.

Phata Poster Nikla Tantrum!

Starry tantrums have been a part of the glamour industry since ages! Even the ones who don’t have many successful films in their kitty throw a tantrum or a two. The latest to join the bandwagon is none other than Shahid Kapoor who has apparently harrowed the director of his latest movie.

The movie may have a song Mai tere agal bagal hun… but Shahid seems to be staying far away from the sets. Sources revealed to zoOm that during the shoot of the movie, Rajkumar Santoshi went a little overboard one day and consumed a little more than extra time of the actor than what was actually scheduled. While Shahid remained mum at that time, he turned the table on the director the next day. Sasha was apparently so miffed with the director that he did not report on the set at all the next day. The director got a drift of things and quietly changed the schedule as per Sasha’s fancies.

While Shahid seems to be merrily promoting his movie now, he definitely gave the director a tough time while shooting. Let’s hope the movie doesn’t turn out to be phata poster nikla zero!
