Mumbai, August 8, 2013: Indian cinema’s living legend Amitabh Bachchan and some of the greatest musical minds are coming together for the first time to make music and join Star India in wiping the tears of survivors of the Uttarakhand floods.

Amitabh will be joined by the talented composer trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and versatile writer and poet Prasoon Joshi to enthral the audience at Star India’s seven-hour marathon fund-raiser for Uttarakhand this Independence Day, August 15th at the NSCI Grounds, Worli, Mumbai.

The musical performance will be a part of a joint initiative by Star India , Wizcraft, the Film & TV Producers Guild and the Hindi film fraternity — ‘Saath Hain Hum Uttarakhand’ to raise funds for rehabilitation work in Uttarakhand, where flash floods in June claimed hundreds of lives and left thousands homeless.

Amitabh will lend his mesmerizing voice to recite couplets from Prasoon’s magical poetry that’ll be set to Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’s music. The enthralling musical act will weave Prasoon’s event anthem – ‘Mera Desh’ – into an enchanting song performance by acclaimed classical singer Shankar Mahadevan and a spellbinding poetic rendition by Amitabh.

“Mera Desh is an invocation by India’s most revered artists with a simple and clear message to fellow citizens — to look at tragedy squarely in the eye and overcome it by joining hands,” Mr Uday Shankar, CEO Star India, said. “Star India is humbled to receive support from Hindi cinema’s biggest icons,” Shankar added.

Indian cinema’s biggest names and celebrities from top television shows of the Star network have pledged their unconditional support to Star’s initiative.

“The noble initiative is an opportunity for the entire Hindi film industry to stand by the very people who have showered us with unconditional love and have made us who we are,” Mr Bachchan said. “We have come together to ease the pain of fellow men who suffered the agonizing pain that this unprecedented calamity brought with itself.”

The entire advertising revenue generated through the event will be donated to not-for-profit organizations that are working diligently to restore normalcy in the hill-state.

“Mera Desh is about reinstilling lost faith in people which is fundamentally shaken after the uttarakhand tragedy. It is also an attempt to say that we are all in it together and we need to face it and just cannot keep feeling great about moving on with our life and that no challenge is big enough if we stand united,” writer, poet Mr. Joshi said.

“Music is a great healer and our effort is to alleviate the sufferings of people through this musical rendition of Mera Desh. Mr Bachchan’s reassuring and affirmative voice, coupled with Prasoon’s thought-provoking lyrics, have made this anthem even more potent. We hope that our humble tribute is successful in mustering mass support for Uttarakhand,” Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy said.

Film Producers Guild, Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), TV Artists Forum, Corporate Charity Trusts and several independent industrialists and donors will partner Star India’s Independence Day marathon fund-raiser that will be attended by senior leaders from the state and central governments.

The gala event will be telecast live on key channels of the Star India network including flagship Star Plus, Life OK, Star Pravah, Star Utsav and Channel V. Viewers would also be encouraged to aid the mammoth task of rebuilding the hill-state.

COLORS show Bani- Ishq Da Kalma launched in March this year aimed to depict a heart-wrenching tale of the abandoned brides of Punjab has come a long way. Completing 100 episodes on 2nd of August, it has quickly gained a place among the hearts of everyone with its receptive theme of young Punjabi girls being enticed into NRI marriages and soon being abandoned by their husbands. Revolving around the story of Bani, its main protagonist, who is forced into living her mother’s unrealized dream of getting married to a prosperous NRI suitor, this show attempts to go beyond the “happily-ever-after”.

The high point in the story appeared when she spots Parmeet at a market in Amritsar, whereas he had informed her he would be in Canada. Is Parmeet cheating on her? And on the other hand,Rajji is about to be put through a test (akhand paath) by Bua. Will Rajji be able to go through it successfully?

Speaking on the occasion Sakha Chairman and Pecoba General Secretary Amarjit Singh Kohli said that Shamshad Begum was highest paid singer of her time and even Lata Mangeshkar has sung in chorus in a few songs in which Shamshad Begum was the lead singer. In the song “aji khushian manayen kyoon na ham, ham kisi se…” from film “Khidki (1948)the lead singer is Shamshad while Lata is singing in chorus.Gramophone Record of this song was issued by Columbia Company in their Record No. GE 8088. Born on 14 April,1919 in Lahore, Shamshad was the oldest surviving playback singer of film industry. She died recently at the age of 94 in Mumbai on 23rd April, 2013. Although she had started singing in radio Peshwar and Lahore since 1937, she made her debut as playback singer in the Punjabi film Yamla Jatt produced by DM Pancholi in Lahore in 1940 in which actor Pran also made his debut as a hero. As her conservative father Miya Hussain Baksh had permitted her to sing in films on the condition that she will never get photographed during his life time, her first photograph was published only in 1970 when she was 51 years old. Shamshad was the recipient of Padma Bhushan Award in 2009.

The Function was followed by a program of musical homage to Shamshad Begum in which Shamshad’s songs were sung by lead singer Simrat Chhabra & others including Deepak Kumar, Arun Goela, Jitendra Srivastava, Parminder Chadha, Shailaja Madhvan and Ragni Mathur. In between the songs Shamshad’s journey of life was illustrated through slides and recorded interviews with those who knew Shamshad very well including her daughter Usha Ratra, film actresses Kamini Kaushal, Waheeda Rehman and Tabbasum, playback singer Meena Kapur, Nirmala Husan Lal (wife of music director Husan Lal) and radio Ceylon ex announcer Gopal Sharma.

Mumbai, August 8th, 2013: 92.7 BIG FM, India’s No. 1 radio network, today announced the final leg of its Benadryl BIG Golden Voice contest, a unique and first-of-its-kind radio based talent hunt that was organized across the network’s 45 stations. The final round will be judged by the Golden voice of Bollywood – Singer Abhijeet who will identify one ‘BIG Golden voice’ of the country. The contest witnessed an overwhelming response from across India, with scores of talented singers participating in the hunt. After launching the contest in July, 92.7 BIG FM has shortlisted 45 voices from each station. Aashiqui 2 completes 100 days

T-Series and Vishesh Films, Aashiqui 2, is a simple, uncomplicated musical love drama released on 26th April 2013 with Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead. The movie that crossed Rs. 100 cr at box-office is still running successfully since its release.

The upcoming gala episode of Indian Idol Junior will see Eid celebration on the sets with Imran Khan and Sonakshi Sinha as the special guests. The superstars will make an appearance on the show to promote their upcoming film ‘Once upon a time in Mumbai Dobara’.

Somaiya College on August 7th, where Mr. Malik connected with students through his singing and with his luminous speech. The event started with Anu Malik giving a brief session on Celebrity management to the students. The conversation later moved on to how important it is for a celebrity to be visible on digital platform. On which Anu Malik gave his opinion that, “I understand that the world has progressed and without an online presence, your offline existence is incomplete. In today’s communicative world it is important to connect with the youth and other followers in an open environment which is provided by the digital platform.”

When the crowd suggested that Anu Malik should be active on digital medium he said, “Internet is a new revolution in today’s world which I am still trying to understand. I am a brand which needs to be portrayed to the public and here our bright minded students who understand it better than me. Hence, I would like to give this opportunity to this young generation to give their creative inputs. ” He took the conversation on an interesting route when he turned the brainstorming of his social media strategy into a live project for the students. The names of his facebook page as well as the twitter handle were recommended by young students. It was the first time when someone from the tinsel town opened his twitter and facebook handle in front of live audience.

Not only did he connect with the students via a discussion, but also managed to expand his fan base by showcasing his talent in the form of melodies he created for the poems and lyrics thrown at him by the audience. This helped in keeping the session light and fun for all present.

We sure need to follow Anu Malik on his digital platform to get a deeper insight into the man himself and explore how a celebrity and young minds come together to create an innovative strategy.
