‘Main Hoon Surya Singham II’ special Police screening & premiere…
The roar of Singham was loud and clear as ‘Main Hoon Surya Singham II’ starring south megastar Surya premiered at multiplex in suburban Mumbai. What made the screening truly special was the fact that it was attended by top ranking police officers including DCP Sunil Bharadwaj, Inspector General Mohan Rathore and DIG Ramrao Panwar among others.
Speaking to the media persons at the premiere DCP Sunil Bhardwaj emphasized on the need for such films. “Producers should make such films that show police in the right light and audience should also encourage films like Main Hoon Surya Singham II,” he added.
Singham II opened to rip-roaring success across south states earlier and August 2 the Hindi version has hit the screens across India with much anticipation and excitement among the audience.
Clearly, one of the most awaited films of 2013, ‘Main Hoon Surya Singham II’ is directed by Hari, and toplines Anushka Shetty, Hansika Motwani along with south super star Surya, who reprises his role of a fiery and righteous police officer from the Singham’s first installment.

Saving the best for the last, Balaji is set to launch the final chartbuster from the forthcoming Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara.
Called Bismillah, the youth anthem which will feature in the film, has been picturised on Akshay Kumar, Imran Khan & Sonakshi Sinha, rendered by Anupam Amod (Pritam’s assistant) and written by Rajat Aroraa.
The club track will be unveiled next week, as part of the countdown to Eid.

Veena plays the role of Vijaylakshmi in the film, while Akshay plays Shiva, a character with negative shade in the film. Sandip Soparrkar judged ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’ UAE Season 2 with Saroj Khan recently. ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’ Television reality show is ruling over the hearts of millions of people across the world. In UAE, people went crazy to show their dancing skills through ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’ UAE extravaganza, before moving to Mumbai’s Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa season 6 and dance in front of their favourite dancing diva Madhuri Dixit.
There were initial selection rounds and thousands of participants took part and finally top 16 were chosen for the show. The selected participants performed solos and gave their best to be able to get a chance of performing in front of the Bollywood diva, for which, they had to impress Bollywood’s renowned choreographer Sandip Soparrkar along with Bollywood veteran choreographer Saroj Khan.

UAE’s Lakshmi Panicker gave a brilliant performance and won her ticket to dance in ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’ India show. She performed, Bharatnatyam, an Indian classical dance to Bollywood number ‘Desi Girl’ from ‘Dostana’. The grand finale took place at the Sheikh Rashid Auditorium in Dubai. Sandip’s cloths for the show were designed by his favourite designer Deepak Shah of More Mischief, at the show Sandip was seen shaking his leg with RJ Malavika Varadan and Siddharth of Radio City 1016 who were also the host of the episode.
The show was telecast in entire Arab countries and Africa on Colors ME channel. ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’ UAE season 1 touched the hearts of people and the show was a super success. This season 2 of Jhalak was on a much larger scale and the canvas of the show was bigger in all possible ways.
Sandip is a known in Hollywood and Bollywood for making stars dance to his tunes, for his creative choreographies and the way he adapts and mixes western dances to Bollywood beats. He has been personally appreciated by Her Majesty the Queen of England Queen Elizabeth & HRH the Prince of Wales Prince Charles, for promoting Ballroom & Latin American dance culture in India. August 1, 2013: Films and books have always shared a special relationship. A good story is what makes for a good film. Thursday evening witnessed that relationship coming alive. The Mumbai captured by Jeet Thayil in his book Narcopolis was relived…some old stories discussed and some new ones created, the Dev Benegal way!
In a rather unusual book reading session, a literary gathering at the Cheval in Mumbai, heard well known author and winner of The DSC Prize for South Asian Literature 2013, Jeet Thayil in discussion on his book Narcopolis, with Dev Benegal, a well-known writer and director famous for his movies like English, August and Road Movie. This was followed by a jam session with Suman Sridhar, singer-songwriter and who forms one half of the lyrical/post-pop duo Sridhar/Thayil.
Talking about his journey after winning this prestigious award, Jeet said, “It’s important to talk about what a cash award of fifty thousand dollars means to a writer. This is a good chunk of cash, which frees the writer from anxiety for a while, for long enough that he can get on with the next one. It is a gift of time, possibly the most important gift there is.”
Talking about the reach of the prize, Jeet said: “I think it’s significant that the first three winners of the DSC Prize are Pakistani, Sri Lankan and Indian, in other words, a wide representation of the region. Also, each is a debut novel by a writer who is attempting to stretch the idea of South Asian writing. I’m very happy to be in this excellent list.”
Instituted in 2010, the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature is an international prize focusing on South Asian Fiction Writing. The DSC Prize is a unique and prominent award, recognizing the literary works of authors across the globe writing on South Asia, transcending the origin or ethnicity of the author.
Now in its fourth year, the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature has gained a stronghold in the literary circuits. The prize is dedicated towards recognizing and rewarding the immense talent writing about the South Asian region that tries to bring forth the culture of this and aspirations of the region. There is a growing interest in South Asian literature which is evident from the increased number of entries the DSC Prize has received for the 2014 edition.

While casting for the role of an international war journalist ,the makers of Madras Cafe were looking for an actress with global appeal ,not to mention, the spunk required to pull off the role and they looked no further than Nargis Fahkri, who shot to fame with her debut in Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar.
While the actress is popularly spoken about for her unique look and screen presence,director Shoojit Sircar promises to introduce to audiences a new facet of the actress ,that is sure to take them by surprise.
Says Shoojit Sircar, “I was looking for somebody to fit the look of a foreign war correspondent — an Indian girl who works abroad and has an accent. I have already worked with her in a commercial much before Rockstar . Imtiaz Ali took her in his film after watching that commercial. When I met her and told her about this role, she was sceptical and asked me whether I was sure of casting her. I think half the work is done if the casting is right.”
Shedding more light on the film says Sircar, “Madras Cafe is conspiracy espionage in the backdrop of the Lankan war. The crux of the story is how it affects the officer’s life.”

SRK wants to buy Comedy Nights with Kapil!
When superstar Shah Rukh Khan visited the sets of COLORS’ hugely popular Comedy Nights with Kapil for the second time in a span of three weeks – a first in the history of India television, Khan offered to buy Kapil’s show from the ace comedian himself!
Khan is said to be such a huge fan of the show that now he wants to make it his own, and was seen offering Sharma a sum of Rs, 10,000 in return! Shocked at his proposal, Sharma remarked jokingly, “Sirf Rs 10,000! Meri bua toh akeli Rs 8,000 ki hai and Dadi Rs 7,000! Mera naukar aur biwi aapko complimentary de doonga!” After much thinking, SRK was seen accepting Kapil’s scheme but said he wasn’t buying the show without Siddhuji! According to Khan and Sharma, without Siddhuji’s constant sher-o-shayari, the show would feel incomplete! The whole deal was finalized over a ping-pong table, where SRK and Kapil were seen to be involved in funny match of ping-pong.
The King Khan’s love for Kapil did not go unnoticed. When asked by an audience member who Khan’s favorite artist in the industry was, he took aback Kapil and the audience by remarking “Abhi toh mera favorite Kapil hi hai!” And just when Sharma was basking in this new-found revelation of Khan, Shah Rukh threw a googly at him – “Arey, main toh Kapil Dev ki baat kar raha tha yaar!”, he was heard saying much to the amusement of everyone on set!
Well, SRK visiting his show twice, and that too in a span of 21 days, we think Kapil has really become King Khan’s favorite!

Makers of ‘The Light: Swami Vivekananda’ to organize a special screening for Gujarat Chief Minister Hon. Shri Narendra Modi in Ahmedabad on 6th Aug
The film pays tribute to Swami Vivekananda
Year 2013 marks 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and on this occasion, to pay tribute to the legendary monk, Director Utpal Sinha is all set to bring a film titled ‘The Light: Swami Vivekananda’ that takes the audience on a journey of transition of young Narendra Nath Datta to world renowned monk Swami Vivekananda.
To start the campaign for the film slated to release on 23rd August, the makers have organized a special screening for Gujarat’s Chief Minister Hon Shri. Narendra Modi in Ahmedabad on 6th Aug.
“Mr. Modi has often spoken about the influence of Swami Vivekananda and his ideologies in his life. He has also been associated with Swami Vivekananda’s Ramkrishna Mission in many ways. In recent past one has seen him participating in various Yuva sammelans and Yatras organized by the missionaries on regular basis and hence it does not come as a surprise that he has agreed to come for a special screening” says a source.
Says producer J. Misra, “Swami Vivekananda’s influence in Mr. Modi’s life can be clearly seen through his communications. We thought why not request Mr. Modi’s office and see if we can get him to come and see the film. To our surprise he readily agreed to take out time from his busy schedule and not only did he agree to come himself but also invited his entire team to come and see the life of Swamiji through the film. We couldn’t have asked for a better start for sure. We are grateful to Mr. Modi for this gesture.”
Produced by TriColour Productions Pvt Ltd., the film has Deep Bhattacharya playing Swami Vivekananda who is making his debut and was finalized after auditioning many faces across India.
The film has compositions of Valmiki, Tulsidas, Surdas and Rabindranath Tagore while the songs have been sung by Suresh Wadkar, Kavita Krishnamurthy and Javed Ali among others.
