Sony Music Stands Tall at the Filmfare Awards (South)
~ Eega, 3 & Kumki bagged multiple awards for their phenomenal music & story ~
July 2013: Various songs under Sony Music’s catalogue have created waves throughout the year 2012. The songs have not just topped almost all the best charts but have also won accolades at the prestigious Filmfare Awards South 2013. Ranging across Tamil & Telegu, the movies Eega, 3, Kumki, Vazhakku Enn 18/9, OKOK to name a few, associated with Sony Music, were appreciated at the awards function with as many as 17 awards across categories.
Eega lead the Filmfare Awards by bagging a total of 5 awards. The film picked up trophies for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor (Female), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Male), Best VFX. The best music under the Tamil category was crowned to D Imman for Kumki. The best lyrics were given to Anantha Shreeram (Yedhi yedhi) (Yeto Vellipoindhi Manasu) (Tamil) and Yugabarathy (Solithaley) (Kumki) (Tamil). The viral sensation Kolaveri Di continues to gather success with Dhanush receiving the Best Playback Singer (Male) and NSK Ramya receiving the Best Playback Singer (Female) for Neethane En Ponvasantham.
Commenting on the same Ashok Parwani, Sony Music Head, South, said “We extend our gratitude to all our music fans because of which this journey turned out to be a successful one. Sony Music is also proud to be associated with films which have made it this big on the large screen. Like last year, we wish to achieve many more such milestones in the future”.

“Milkha Singh’s story is worth telling” – Award Winning Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra relives “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag”
At Whistling Woods, the director talks to aspiring film makers and management students about the story of Milkha, and the challenge of telling it through cinema.
Mumbai, 24th June2013: Whistling Woods International, one of Asia’s largest Film, Media & Fashion Institutes known for its unconventional teaching methods, hosted Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra who interacted with students about his recent film “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag”
The objective was for aspiring film makers to learn & understand the challenges, joys and risks of making a bio-pic based on the life of a public figure like Milkha Singh. He also discussed with the students the challenges Farhan Akhtar’s character faced, during the duration of the shoot, and the training process.
He highlighted the challenges of making a film that is set in a different era – from creating music & costumes that are referential and authentic, to the difficulties in getting rare footage of iconic scenes of the movie like the Rome Olympics & travelling to Australia, to get the right spikes from that era.
The movie is also currently being edited to be released on a larger, global audience, and this version will debut later this year.
Talking about his interaction with aspiring film making students, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra said “I love coming to Whistling Woods, and talking to the students here. I always hope that the class never ends, but it does! It’s always very interactive, and I end up learning a lot, thanks to their questions”

Karan johar to Present The Lunch Box
The Lunchbox is up for a major release in India. The Lunch Box was a breakout film at Cannes Film festival.
The film will be presented to desi audiences by Karan Johar and UTV, in association with Dar Motion Pictures and the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC).
Produced by Anurag Kashyap, Guneet Monga and Arun Rangachari, the film stars Irrfan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Nimrit Kaur in pivotal roles. Its international distributor is Sony, which had earlier distributed Lagaan.
Says Karan, “I absolutely loved the film. Irrfan and Nawazuddin are brilliant, while Nimrit is waiting to exhale. I haven’t enjoyed a love story like this in a long time. Wednesday, July 24, 2013: Yash Raj Films’ next Shuddh Desi Romance has been invited for the esteemed Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2013 for the prestigious Gala Red Carpet Premiere.
The grand screening will be attended by director Maneesh Sharma and writer Jaideep Sahni along with the cast Sushant Singh Rajput, Parineeti Chopra and debutant Vaani Kapoor. The Gala Red Carpet Premiere will be held on September 11th at the prominent Roy Thomson Hall with a 2000 capacity in Toronto, Canada.
