Rakul Preet plays self in Bollywood debut Yaariyaan!

You may have heard of actors being inspired by various people and adapting nuances from their personalities, when playing characters they portray on screen. But it is rare that an artiste plays a role which is very near to her own personal life!

One such character being unfolded on the silver screen is that of Rakul Preet in her maiden film Yaariyaan; the directorial debut of T-Series’ head honcho Bhushan Kumar’s wife Divya Kumar.

Rakul, a mathematics graduate, who has studied financial management in real life, plays a nerd in the film; one who is very good with numbers. “Trust me, its easier to play another character, than one which is very near to your own personality,” she quips as she winks.

“There were times I would get a bit confused how much reality should be mixed with reel. At other times, when I studied the character, I’d feel I needed to get more pep infused in my real life,” she laughs.

Rakul is grateful to her director for keeping the balance perfect. “Divya Kumar has a fine eye and a great sense of extracting natural performances. Her vision really helped me give just the right shades to the character,” concludes the actress.

zombies in World War Z

Mumbai, June 24, 2013: Fans of the new category of movies – the Z (for Zombie) movies -have a reason to cheer with the release of World War Z (WWZ). As the sole conversion facility for this $175 million 3D Hollywood project, PFW delivered 2076 converted shots, with its creative team working simultaneously from facilities in Mumbai and London.

PFW and Corey Turner (VP of Post Production at Paramount Pictures) have worked together on marquee conversion projects like Men in Black 3 and Transformers: Dark of the Moon. World War Z is another milestone movie for the global media and entertainment services powerhouse. The film which released on 21 June is garnering rave reviews for top-quality conversion with a great 3D look and some amazing standout moments.

In line with changing stereo tastes amongst audiences, and due to the nature of the film, some very unique creative decisions were taken by director Mark Forster, Corey Turner and the PFW team. PFW has created lots of depth for this show, pulling elements out from the screen into theater space and providing ample opportunity for ‘3D moments’ – including zombie attacks and immersive environments. Also Brad Pitt’s face was modeled to create a depth matte from this geometry that the artists could use to ensure consistency and accuracy in the depth sculpting of his features, all the more considering there were far too many close up shots of a very well known face!
