For one night only, March 5, supreme saxophonist Jay Beckenstein of Spyro Gyro, will be doing a gig at Westend in Athlone.
Jay is coming out for Jazz on the Rocks in Tietiesbaai but, as it sold out in hours, Camissa Solutions wanted to give Capetonians a chance to see this incredible musician. Jay is being backed by local band Topdog under the auspices of Camillo Lombard.
Alto (and sometimes soprano) saxophonist Jay Beckenstein founded the highly successful crossover jazz outfit Spyro Gyra in 1974 and has led the group for more than 40 years. Jay grew up in a musical family — his mother was an opera singer, his father a jazz buff — and began playing the saxophone at age seven, joining school bands and playing both jazz and R&B.
The support act is Jarrad Rickets, former lead singer of The Pedestrians, who has gone solo, and popular DJ Uncle Cal will be filling in the gaps.
This is a show not to be missed. Tickets are all R120 (unreserved) and can be bought at Computicket. Book now as this show is going to sell out fast.
Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 10pm.
