Foodies and wine-lovers will be excited to hear that renowned Michelin-starred chef Roger Jones will again be preparing and hosting exclusive wine-paired dinners at the Vineyard Hotel early in the new year.
At21, Roger Jones was the youngest of the Queen’s head chefs to run State banquets at Buckingham Palace. He would later take over and transform The Harrow at Little Bedwyn into a country restaurant that has achieved a Michelin-star every year since 2006, and countless other awards. Jones is also a respected wine writer and judge. A few years ago, this regular visitor to the Vineyard Hotel agreed to share his passion and knowledge with other Vineyard patrons by collaborating with Executive Chef Carl van Rooyen on a few highly anticipated wine-paired dinners.
“These dinners are an example of how long-standing friendships based on matching philosophies can bring a showpiece of international acclaim to the shores of South Africa, while also introducing our kitchen team to new culinary thinking. Hosting Roger and these dinners is a wonderful extension of the Vineyard’s legacy of combining exceptional wines with exceptional dishes specifically chosen to complement those wines,” says Roy Davies, General Manager at the Vineyard Hotel.
At the MCC Bubbles-paired Dinner, on 10 January, a mere 30 diners will be accommodated at the Upper Deck, an exclusive new venue at the Vineyard Hotel. Roger will prepare a menu of six courses which he will pair with the finest South African sparkling wines made in accordance with the ancient Champagne method. Seats at this exclusive banquet are R895 a head.
Roger’s second dinner is eagerly anticipated by patriotic gourmands as it is the South Africa versus Australia leg of the 2017 Tri-Nations of Wine. (The other venues for the championship are Roger’s restaurant in the English countryside and Hawke’s Bay in New Zealand.) South African wines have won their previous outing against Australia and drew with New Zealand. On 13 January 2017, 80 guests will sit down to a six-course Roger Jones menu, each course paired with two unidentified wines, one from South Africa, one from Australia. Diners will decide which wine they prefer, and the results will be announced at the end of the evening. Seats are R1 095 per person.
