Living Edge is excited to announce its new national partnership with Vitra, the Swiss furniture manufacturer renowned for producing some of the most iconic pieces of classic and contemporary design.

The Vitra Home Collection encompasses furniture, lighting and accessories that showcase the company’s 60-year legacy of combining technical and conceptual expertise with exceptional creativity. “We are thrilled to welcome Vitra Home to the Living Edge collection,” says Jo Mawhinney, Head of Retail at Living Edge. “Vitra is undoubtedly one of the most iconic design brands in the world, and with products that fuse timeless classic design with an innovative edge, it’s a perfect compliment to the existing Living Edge range.”

Vitra produces furniture by a list of designers and architects that reads like a roll call of twentieth-century greats and contemporary masters. And certainly its collection of furniture marks some of the most pivotal moments in this history of furniture design with many pieces being groundbreaking explorations of material, technology and form.

Some of these highlights include Ronan and Erwan Bouroullecs’ indoor/outdoor Vegetal and Belleville chairs, and ergonomic Slow Chair that invites users to sit down, relax and take it slow, just as the name suggests. Jasper Morrison’s Soft Modular Sofa is a modern classic and stays true to his “super-normal aesthetic” with attention to form rather than fussiness; and Hella Jongerius’ Polder Sofa evokes the characteristic Dutch landscape for which it is named with asymmetry, strong geometries and a horizontal emphasis.

Of course, Vitra is distinguished for its classics that changed the look and feel of furniture in the twentieth century. Isamu Noguchi’s biomorphic glass and walnut coffee table continues to be one of the world’s most covetable pieces of design 70 years after he conceived it. Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen’s sculptural Organic Chair was well ahead of its time and marked a new generation in furniture design and production in 1941. And Jean Prouvé’s Cité, Fauteuil and Standard chars all reflect the French artisan’s “constructional” aesthetic and approach to furniture design in the 1930s. Living Edge has these plus many more iconic furniture pieces on display and available for order.

Vitra CEO Rolf Fehlbaum founded the Vitra Design Museum in Switzerland in 1989 and it has since claimed its place as one of the most important design museums in the world. Housed in a building designed by architect Frank Gehry, the Vitra Design Museum is dedicated to the research and presentation of design and explores design’s relationship to architecture, art and everyday culture.

Living Edge’s showrooms offer a snapshot of what’s on display at the Vitra Design Museum. This includes the Panton Chair by Verner Panton, Landi Chair by Hans Coray and Wiggle Chair by Frank Gehry, as well as Charles and Ray Eames’ Butterfly Stool, decorative wooden dolls by Alexander Girard and textiles by Ray Eames. “Our customers share our passion for iconic design pieces with integrity, and Vitra certainly fits that bill,” says Mawhinney.
