Havwoods and Specifier have just released a new white paper: An Industry Guide to Specifying Engineered Timber Flooring. This white paper outlines all the benefits of engineered timber flooring solutions, such as Havwoods’ Par-ky.

Engineered timber flooring is a flooring solution that utilises engineered timber boards designed specifically for flooring. Engineered timber boards are made up of multiple layers of wood joined together, forming a far more stable plank which is much less likely to swell or shrink with changes in temperature and humidity. The composite wood core of Havwoods’ Par-ky engineered timber boards also makes them extremely impact-resistant. The stability of engineered timber versus solid wood also means that longer and wider engineered timber boards can be produced. Engineered timber flooring can also be safely placed over underfloor heating, unlike most solid wood flooring. The top layer of an engineered timber board, also called the lamella, is made from solid wood, normally hardwood. This gives engineered timber boards the look and feel of solid hardwood floors. Havwoods’ Par-ky boards use only prime grade wood, which places them up with the best in hardwood floors in terms of appearance and feel. These boards can be shaped either as planks or as herringbone blocks for parquetry.

Though similar in some ways, engineered timber flooring is not a form of laminate flooring. Engineered timber boards have real, solid wood on their surface, while laminate only has a photographic image of wood. Indeed, engineered timber flooring combines the warmth and beauty of real wood with the advantages of laminate, such as limited thickness, easy floating installation and a water-resistant core layer. Engineered timber flooring can also be as easy to install as laminate flooring. Thanks to its stability, engineered timber can be laid as a floating floor, reducing the time and cost of installation. Every Havwoods’ Par-ky engineered timber board is equipped with the patented Uniclic fixing system, which is unmatched in terms of installation simplicity and efficiency. Unlike most solid hardwood floors, Havwoods’ Par-ky engineered timber boards are usually pre-finished. Thanks to their stability and the fact they can be laid as floating floors, engineered timber flooring can also be easy to repair. Havwood’s Par-ky system also comes with the unique Par-ky Bulldog tool. This allows for a single floorboard to be easily replaced, while leaving the rest of the floor in place. Not only does this greatly reduce the cost and time of repairing floors, it also means that floor repairs do not require any special skills, and can be performed by residents. Havwoods’ Par-ky provides the benefits of real wood flooring at a similar price to laminate, vinyl and carpet, and offers a range of engineered timber solutions for all sorts of flooring needs.
