Leading UK manufacturer of interior building solutions, Armstrong Ceilings, has won its second green award in as many months.
Just two months after winning the 2013 Sustainability Award from major contractor Willmott Dixon Interiors for a demonstration trial with the exemplar organisation WRAP, Armstrong has won Materials Recycler of the Year (SME) at the National Recycling Awards.
Armstrong's business development manager Roy Gleiwitz received the trophy during a ceremony at the Park Lane Hilton, London, on July 3rd from comedian and impressionist Alistair McGowan and Jane Beasley, director of Beasley Associates, who was on the judging panel.
The judges said of Armstrong's entry, which was about the company's ceiling tile recycling schemes: "This is an innovative company who have benefitted from thinking ahead about the reclamation and re-use of materials. Its material take-back and re-use of old ceilings offers both environmental and cost benefits."
Armstrong's recycling schemes have recycled almost 300 tonnes in the UK in 2012 alone, on projects including the London 2012 Media Centre, Pitney Bowes offices, and the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow. Previous projects include Salford Hospital, Birmingham University Hospital and Farnborough Air Show.
Armstrong's other environmental awards include Sustain Magazine 2010, Green Apple 2011 and AIS (Association of Interior Specialists) Eco Innovation 2011.
