Okay, so the title of this entry is “It” starts…..and what is “It”?  For anyone listening to the radio, watching television or those that peruse the junk mail that is sent to your house, “It” refers to the inundation of advertisements for “weight loss” products, services, devices, pills etc.  Madison Avenue knows very well that in the latter part of December and most definitely after Xmas, people struggling with weight control start thinking more and more about their “problem” and they are ready to do something about it.

That “something” usually mean for most a “diet” and corporate America (hey, I am one of them) would love to sell you a product, a service, a machine, a gym membership, a “diet” book and anything else your debit or charge card can handle to help you in your pursuits.

Remember at all times that in the area of weight control, if something sounds too good to be true is ALWAYS is too good to be true.  And I just broke my rule in medicine that states:  “Never say Never and Never say Always”.  Magic supplements, sprinkles you can put on food, “magic” diets, “secrets” to long term weight loss…anything advertising in this manner should immediately be disregarded.

Long term weight loss requires long term behavioral modification and life style changes.  There are no “ifs, ands or buts” about this.  Do not be deceived and gulled into buying some hype in a bottle and do not allow those compelling testimonials that seem so real as to how the person lost the weight “so easily”.  There is nothing easy about long term weight control and accepting this concept is the first step in beginning a successful journey towards a goal weight.
