To celebrate National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week we’ve teamed up with Key West Aloe to bring you a giveaway that will have your furry friends wagging their tails!
I am the proud owner of what some might say is the cutest long-haired miniature dachshund in the world, Lacey Palen! Of course, all dog owners believe theirs to be the cutest. Fair enough, but just take a look at this gorgeous munchkin, snuggling with her teddy bear.
This glorious animal and I have been a duo for the last eight years. She’s been my little buddy since I was 19 so she was by my side throughout college and she was my most precious cargo when I flew to New York City to try my hand at becoming a professional writer. Let’s just say, things were not always easy. There were many days and nights when I had to lean on my furry friend for comfort and support. Of course, all pet owners know how great having a fuzzy friend is for your happiness, but did you know that pets are also good for your health?
“We found that pet owners, on average, were better off than non-owners, especially when they have a higher-quality relationship with their pets,” pet researcher Allen R. McConnell, PhD, told WebMD. “What [makes] a meaningful relationship varies from person to person.” According to WebMD the health benefits are seemingly endless. People who own pets have a lower risk of developing heart disease and they have lower blood pressure due to the fact that they typically walk more. Plus, when people pet their animals their stress hormones decrease which also reduces blood pressure. “People who own pets are generally happier, more trusting, and less lonely than those who don’t have pets. They also visit the doctor less often for minor problems,” the article explains.
Feel free to pause for a moment to hug your fur baby for! Back? Alright, let’s get to the giveaway. As mentioned earlier, it’s National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week so we teamed up with Key West Aloe to spread the word and bring you a fun prize package for three lucky readers and their pups!
Lacey with her travel-size Really Good Doggie Deodorizer.
As adorable as my dog is, she is a total stink bug sometimes. I’ve tried a few different dog shampoos, but nothing leaves her smelling as fresh and feeling as fluffy than Key West Aloe’s Really Good Doggie Shampoo. My dog gets a bath about every three weeks so in between bath times I reach for the Florida-based brand’s Really Good Doggie Deodorizer. Just a few spritz of the fresh smelling, 40% aloe-infused product every few days and Lacey is as fluffy as a bunny’s cotton tail. I also spritz it on some of her favorite spots on the couch to instantly erase all pet odors she may have left in her wake.
To enter to win a pair of full-size Deodorizer and Shampoo join us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and in the comment section below. Then, tell us your favorite dog breed! For additional entries, head to our social platforms and tag us in a photo of your furry friend!
Thinking About Getting a Pet?
The Northshore Animal League is the largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization in the world. They have saved over 1,000,000 puppies, dog, cats, and kittens since they opened in 1944. Northshore rescue animals from overcrowded shelters, unwanted litters, and from owners no longer able to care for them. They also do their part to raise awareness about the importance of adopting animals. The great thing about adopting from a no-kill shelter is that when you take home your new best friend it makes space for another animal to come in which means you’re actually saving the lives of two animals. If you or someone you know is thinking about getting a pet head over to the Northshore Animal League’s website to find out more about pet rescue and adoption.
