Flipping the Bird in association with Red Shift presents Jonathan Holloway’s Jekyll & Hyde.
Wandering into the darkness of a Southwark back-alley, the respectable Utterson and decadent Enfield find a curious door, ajar. Enfield thinks he grasps the mystery beyond it, but to discover more, he and Utterson must leave the lights of fashionable London behind forever. The grimy threshold leads them into the criminal underworld of London’s dark press, and the murky researches of Dr Jekyll.
Fusing live music, black comedy and grotesque cabaret, Jekyll & Hyde will leave you feeling titillated, tainted and unclean.
Following on from a five star, sell out run at the Edinburgh Festival, Flipping the Bird present Fringe First Award winning writer Jonathan Holloway’s mesmerising adaptation of Stevenson’s novella. Directed by Jessica Edwards (Old Vic Tunnels, Theatre503, Les Enfants Terribles), with set design by Joanna Scotcher (Whatsonstage Best Set Design Award Winner 2011), lighting design by Joshua Carr and music by award winning composer Laurence Osborn (English National Ballet, Tete-a-Tete Opera).

Flipping the Bird is a collaborative theatre company, specialising in new writing and new adaptations. We like finding theatrical images in novels, poems, and stories. We make work that is contemporary, iconoclastic and irreverent. Our work is wide ranging, from taking over abandoned restaurants to making plays in proscenium theatres. Recent work includes: FOUND! (Old Vic Tunnels), The Magic Toyshop in a new adaptation (Oxford Playhouse), Without External Ignition (Theatre503 RWR), Antigone in a new translation (The Cellar) and Notes From Underground in a new translation and adaptation (Etcetera Theatre). Flipping the Bird is made up of core members from different creative disciplines: a director, a composer, a movement director, and an actor.
