Congrats to our immediate chapter Past President Deb Schwarz on her recently published editorial essay in The Journal of New Librarianship, “A Librarian by Another Name”!
She discusses our changes roles, and our continued viability.
I agree with Deb that “We have finally arrived at the juncture where the role of the librarian must diverge into areas of specialization.”
Not the classic tech services vs. reference services, but other work that adds value, like working embedded, short or long term, in a project, for instance, or leading the way on creating a taxonomy for the organization’s intranet (two things I am proud to say we are doing at my library, but, we are also struggling with balancing with some traditional work that our users DO need us to keep doing).
