The 2017 Davis Cup Group II - Asia/Oceania was held from February 3 to February 5 in four (4) various places in Asia. Our Southeast Asian (SEA) nations who saw action in this elimination round were Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

Vietnam team composed of Thien Nguyen Hoang, Nam Hoang Ly, Minh Tuan Pham and Dac Tien Nguyen was not able to beat its first round rival Hong Kong. Of the five matches played, Vietnam won two matches courtesy of Nam Hoang Ly.

Ly defeated Hei Yin Andrew Li in the second game (6-1, 6-2, 6-4) and Hong Kit Wong in the fourth game (6-3, 7-6, 6-4). In the other single event matches, Thien Nguyen Hoang was defeated by Hong Kong's Hong Kit Wong and Karan Rastogi. While the third game who was also represented by the two Vietnamese players scored 7-6, 4-6, 6-7, 1-6 in favor of the Hong Kong team. The match ended with a 3-2 win by Hong Kong who will advance to the second round. While Vietnam will meet Iran in the play-off round.

Thailand nailed its ticket to the second round by defeating Kuwait in the first round, 3-1. Thailand team was composed of Jirat Navasirisomboon, Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul and veteran brothers Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwana.

The first match was between Kuwait's Abdullah Maqdes and Jirat Navasirisomboon who won the game 6-2,6-4, 6-7, 6-4. The second match which was won by Mohammad Ghareeb defeating Thailand's Trongcharoenchaikul (6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-7, 6-0). The third match was a double's event and won by the Thai twin with the score of 6-2, 6-0 and 6-3. While the fourth match was a revenge from a defeat by Trongcharoenchaikul. He defeated Maqdes 6-4, 6-2, 5-7, 4-6 and 7-6.

Thailand will advance in the second round to play against the Philippines who defeated Indonesia in another first round game.

Philippine team was composed of  Alberto Lim, Ruben Gonzales, Francis Casey Alcantara and Treat Huey while Indonesia team members were David Agung Susanto, Aditya Hari Sasongko, Sunu-Wahyu Trijati and Anthony Susanto.

First match was won by Indonesia's David Susanto defeating Alberto Lim 3-6, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, 1-1 (retired due to sprain). While the remaining matches were won by Philippines. Ruben Gonzales defeated Aditya Hari Sasongko (6-2, 6-2, 6-4) and David Susanto (6-2, 6-3, 6-4). Doubles' Francis Casey Alcantara and Treat Huey defeated D. Susanto and Trijati (6-2, 6-4, 6-4). And the last match was won by A. Lim beating Anthony Susanto.

The defeat of Indonesia will relegate them to a play-off against Kuwait which was beaten by Thailand.
